It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
I ran a ground from the bottom of the mount to a bolt connecting quarter panel to body. Immediately there was more static, engine engine whine and some other intermittent sound. SWR now either read below 1 and gave me antenna warning or read the same 2.3 it's been giving me. Antenna length didn't change anything...

Idk man, but you shouldn't just leave a connector exposed like that. Put some heat shrink on it

I soldered the connection and it's a ground. Why does it need heat shrink

Use a different ground; sounds like the one you are currently hooked up to is "dirty". Mine is opposite end of the truck from yours so it's grounded to the bed frame (not the plastic obviously). You may have to resort to running a ground strap all the way to the frame directly, which is for sure a "clean" ground.

Probably somebody messed up a ground when they replaced his engine. :D

Why do I see people using the straps for grounding antennas? Should I use bigger gauge wire? And I will put it on the frame and see, thanks

Eh, at least in my experience, "strap" is just a term for "long piece of wire for grounding". For the antenna it shouldn't take a huge gauge. I think mine is like 18 GA or something, maybe even 22 but that's just because I had that laying around.

Gotcha. I saw a guy with a ham antenna on his truck, and he had an actual braided flat strap on his so I thought that's what you were talking about.

Ah, yeah I wouldn't say that's necessary for a CB setup. I mean if you have one of those by all means use it, but I wouldn't go buy one. Haha.

so I'm at mckinnon for my 10k service and I said also to get the rear differential checked.

when walking out there i told the person going to read vin that I had told the people here at my 5k service to check the diffs but go figure they didn't. I also said their known to have low transmission fluid, but hey what do i care, southeast toyota gives lifetime warranty for a reason.

See if you are in cps recall. I am, they won't have a fix until mid July though....

Buy a shorter coax. The shortest you can use for the distance. Coax length plays a part in how well your radio works.
