First off, anybody else find it funny the Navy and Coast Guard guys are all about letting gays openly serve j/k :p

Second, the military is nothing by a microcosm of society. If we as a country can't agree to allow same sex marriages, why are we going to force it on the military. Until society openly accepts gays, it's unrealistic to expect the same to happen in the military. Forcing it within the next couple of years will be a disciplinary nightmare. We already have issues with men sexually harrassing females and in some instances vice-a-versa, imagine adding the harrassment homesexuals will receive. The military requires a level of discipline and commitment from our members that civilians just don't understand. We can't kick out everyone who disagrees with policy as a simple fix. Keep in mind some people joined the military because of our higher standards than the civilian standars. We don't tolerate drugs, we tend to be more responsible with money, and we put more rules limiting our liberties than our civilian sector. I do think however within the next decade, we as a society will be more tolerant, and in turn the military as a whole will be more accepting. It's just going to require more time, and I hope our sensible politicians realize that before forcing this down the throats of our military. I also don't think the homsexual rights activists have done much to help there cause by doing things like desocrating religion for denouncing homosexuals, holding extreme rally's; instead they've set themselves back at least 10 years.

For the record, gays can serve in the military, not openly, so all you bonehead civilians stating your case, please educate yourselves before you come here trying to educate some of the finest men and women this country has to offer. President Clinton instillled the program over 17 years ago and it has served us well. Why change it now....I think someone owes a community payback for supporting their election campaing

Well Lance Corporal, I'll obviously ingnore you blatant disrespect because this is the internet. Yes, I am a POG... you are right, I am not a ground pounder. I've however served in Iraq and will be heading to Afghanistan soon enough. I am a United State Naval Officer, and hold to the creed of my service, Honor, courage, and commitment. Your comments are asinine but typical of an E3. I have the uttmost respect for my brothers in green... if you stay in long enough I hope a gunny teaches you some respect

ya it should be locked *****edited*****. I'm sick of the " o these young guys don't know what the fuck there doing, us older guys need to teach them a lesson" Dude, your the one sounding stupid.

My opinion. Gays dont belong in the military, gays don't deserve to be married.

its Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

Apparently punctuation is in short supply in the Marines.

So a gay guy can't call in an air strike because he has "characteristics of a female in the mind"? All that training is going to just fly out the window as he prances away from the fight? I don't think so.

You know you fall under the Department of the Navy right? Just sayin'. Anyway, be careful while you're shopping at the "mens department", I've heard some questionable things about the retail clerk there.

Everyone gets it, you're about 21, think you're best cause you're a Marine and no one else is anywhere near as important as you and can't even come close to doing their job as well as you do yours. It gets old, you need to open your mind up just a little bit.

Yeah I'm in the Air Force, guess I should get this ready --> :crapstorm:

Hey now, I'm a young guy! :D Well, at least I used to be....

The argument wasn't people's opinion on homosexuality, but more specific. Reason why thread got locked down earlier is bc people cannot argue in a calm respective manner. Being in the military, show a little self discipline, state your case, receive the rebuttal like a man, and counter. Come on now:cool:

Lets not make this my branch is better than yours thread. BC if thats the case, I've talked to E1's all the way up to 06's the same way. When your on my jet, I'm the boss point blank, and you will follow my directions. And if I'm not satisfactory, theirs always the Aircraft commander. So am I better leader bc of my branch of service?

well good for you lance corporal, I'm glad to see an upward motivated Marine. I wouldn't say I was bashing the Marine corps, I have nothing but love for them. If there was a comment you were offended by then you misinterpreted its meaning, they were all in jest. Really, half my team in Iraq were Marines,

Unfortunately, eventhough you are motivated and eager, you still have a very narrow juvenile view of the world and military... one day you will expand outside the corps...

I want to be very clear up front: I'm not trying to offend anyone.

The reason this will be determined by congress is because in the United States, the legislature represents the people (ostensibly), is elected by the people (again, ostensibly), and sets policy (sometimes, when not too busy fighting with itself). The people pay the taxes that fund the military, and thus their representatives determine how said military operates.

Whether or not this is right is an argument people can have amongst themselves if they want to. I have no desire to get involved and really couldn't care less either way. I'm just explaining why politicians make this decision, and not the military chain of command itself.

Now a question of genuine curiosity: For anyone opposed to gays openly serving in the military, why? They're already in your schools, businesses, government, churches and, yes, the military, so why not call a spade a spade? Other than, of course, the fact that spade is a pretty racist term for black people. But that's another thread.
