Thanks very much for the update! Sucks that there can't really fix the "gap" situation. Do you think it is something they will continue to work on since security is on of their big selling points. Kind of bums me out I spent a lot of money on something you don't get full functionality out of it.

You must be frustrated with the defective latch. They should just send you a whole new unit.

Yeah I hope they do. I understand that if you can't make it fit like it does on the other truck beds/models, then you can't do it, I get that. But then don't market it like it fits perfectly either. It's a shame because otherwise it's a really awesome design and seems well built. On the plus side, it doesn't seem to be interfering with keeping out water.

And yeah, the latch thing pissed me off. I'm not one of their engineers. It's not my job as the consumer to fix a part that was broken out of the box. If I buy a pair of sneakers from Nike and the tread on the bottom is peeing off when I take them out of the box, I expect to be sent a new pair of sneakers. I don't expect to be sent a bottle of super glue and be told to fix them myself. Same expectation should apply to all companies.

Not the news I was wanting to here after purchasing it last Friday :(

We'll see how I get mine to fit. If I'm not satisfied, im returning it. Thanks for the update.

Mine looks great, fits great, and performs great except for the tailgate gap/security issue. It is very convenient how you can open and close your tailgate with the cover on. I've had a little rain and seems to perform well except for water at the tailgate area because of the gap. I need a good rain to better gauge its performance. I will call Bak and see if they will send me the supposed "fix" minus the plastic since tbrett56 doesn't work. I will also ask what their "plan b" is since the first attempt didn't work.

You know Bak knew about this tailgate problem but put it to market anyway. It the old "throw it against the wall and see if it sticks" approach. With all the Gen 2 Tacoma's out there, you would have thought they would addressed this instead of potentially losing a lot in sales for this market. Hopefully they are still looking to fix the problem.

The way they are treating tbrett56's latch problem is BS. They should just send him a new one and have him return the defective one with postage covered. Spending close to $1000.00 and have the company expect you to fix is bad business.

I like it but I am bummed about the security issue. I don't really expect to keep valuable in the back much so its not a real deal breaker.....yet. I wouldn't have bought this knowing about the security issue beforehand.

So on your guy's bed cover, are the rails in line with the original bed rail? I only installed one for now, and it is kind of crooked. Maybe because the bed rail has a weird shape at the end by the tailgate.

And the rubber seal on the outside of the rail, are your guy's sitting flat? Mine got tucked under as I was putting it on.
If you guys have any more picture of the cover I would appreciate if you posted them.

Did you use the bed rail screws that the cover came with, or your factory screws? Factory screws are longer and push the factory bedrails out if you try to use those instead of the shorter ones that they include with the cover.

And yes, you have to pick at the rubber seal or be very careful when mounting it because it folds under the rails when mounting them. I just used the full side of a razor blade to pop the rubber out once mounted.

Yeah I did use the supplied screws. So youre saying your bed cover rail is lined up with the design pattern on the Tacoma rail? I was using those as a guide but after not being able to get it just right, I just installed it.

You take the factory rail off and the cover rails should line up with the factory holes for the factory rail. You then remount the factory rails to those little metal blocks using the supplied screws and it should all be straight

Ill have to try and line it up on the second one. Was the rest of the install pretty easy?

I didn't do the install on mine. I had ordered the X2 through 4 Wheel Parts and got a free install. Sorry, I could help. I know they didn't take off the bulkhead track rail like some say you need to do. I talked with Jeff, at Bak Industries, and he confirmed it's ok if you leave it on. I wish I could help more.

You mean the rail right behind the rear window?

So I finished the installation on mine and wow the rolling it up is a lot harder than what you see in videos lol. But I found that I have the same latch problem as @tbett56 One side is very hard to pull the white plastic piece all the way in so the cover can lift. It's very annoying.

And I did get sent the "solution" and the plastic piece is already connected to the d shaped tubing. I don't really know how to install it. I'll post a picture of it later today.

Yes, it is the rail below the rear window.

It sucks to hear you are having a problem with your latch as well. Mine seems to work fine. Both black cables are easy to pull to get the cover to unlock and start rolling. Its real easy to push the cover down and lock as well both sides as well. I look forward to hearing how the "solution" works for you and how to install it.

Were you able to install the "solution" piece and how does it work for you?

I'm sorry for the late reply. I have not installed it. I'm waiting on an answer from the customer service guys on how put it on right. I have an idea that I tried but it didn't solve much.

As for my latch problem, I contacted the distributer I purchased from. They put me in an email with them and a guy from Bak. They sent me a latch repair kit and expect me to fix it without any guidance at the least. Smh.

I'm giving them a bit of beef about it though. I'll update once everything is figured out.

Thanks for the update. BAK is really starting to sound like they do not like to stand behind their products. I think I would return it if I had the latch problem.

Yeah idk, I sent them an email basically explaining how they're wrong for marketing this the way they are for the 2nd gens and told them that if I wanted to buy a cover that I'd have to fix myself, I would have saved myself $400 and bought a used cover. I was given the typical "We are sorry for the inconvenience, please know we will take your information into consideration" response from them. As it appears from your guys' comments, it remains to be seen whether or not they have actually revised any of their policies. Jeff also made it known to me that he was aware of this thread, so they're probably reading it right now (hi Jeff).

BTW, I'm still waiting on my $50 rebate.....

Wishing that I had seen this tread before making my purchase of the BAK Revolver X2 tonneau cover for my 2014 Tacoma. As soon as i finished my installation I knew that there was a problem. Really disappointed with my purchase and have already made arrangements to return it and doubt that I will buy any BAK product. Now I'm back to trying to find the right solutions. Anyone have any suggestions?
If you could point me to a thread discussing this I would be very grateful.

BAK designers should fix this and BAK should not be marketing this cover for 2nd gen Tacomas
