Do Canadians drink a 40 like U.S. or do they drink a 1.2 liter.

I didn't notice any drop in MPG when I switched, but I still have my factory Toyo's. When I throw heavier tires on maybe it will dip, but I'm still around 20 in mixed driving, even with a roof basket on top, air dam removed, and bike rack on the back.

My trail wheels were 29 lbs each. I've read that the stock Sport wheels are 27 lbs each. I wouldn't consider that 2 lb difference as "significantly heavier".

Sport wheels are 1" bigger than the OR wheels. Wonder what the weight difference is on those.

Good point. Also, I had previously read that the trail wheels were 31 lbs. I was pleasantly surprised when I weighed mine that they were lighter than what I expected.

I saw that the 2nd gen 16" TRD-OR wheels were 22 pounds in this thread

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/stock-off-road-wheel-weight.172097/

I don't think ours would weigh significantly more than that, so even if they were around 25 pounds, 4 pounds of unsprung mass is quite a bit, esp when factoring in heavier tires. I think I will have to continue looking at aftermarket wheels that are a little lighter.

What's a couple of +/- wheel pounds when you toss on a 50 pound tire anyway. Just saying...

Sport wheels are actually 25.5lbs. I heard the trail wheels are around 31lbs.

I had heard/read the same thing about the trail wheels (31 lbs). I weighed mine and each one was within a few ounces of 29 lbs.

I was also curious what this style wheel would look like on our 3rd gens.. now I'm sold. Now I have to decide on if I want the silver and gray accent style or the silver and black accents. My tacoma is black so I'm sure they would both look great on it. I think they look great powder coated also if I ever wanted to go that route. They guy who has those black chrome powder coating makes me wanna do that color. Tjey looked pretty nice. Thanks for posting this thread sir.

Well, I didn't weigh them absent tires, so my weights skew things a bit, but...... My OEM OR wheels with OEM Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar P265/70-16 tires weighed 61 lbs each. My Trail wheels shod with Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in P265/65-17 (considerably heavier tire) weighed 72 lbs. each. As best I can tell mileage may have dropped by 1 MPG.

Tests are in. I lost MPG with these wheels. A whole 0.1 MPG. You'd probably lose more MPG by having a big girl in the truck than with the minimal differences in weight.

My tests are totally scientific and made up.

I see a little loss in all city driving but no difference on the highway. After bouncing between V8 Fords and L4 and V6 Tacomas the past few years anything over 17.5 is great to me. Mine gets better city mpg than my ole reliable 2000 4 banger Prerunner did on the highway. That includes hot rodding around town with the ect and S4 so I can enjoy the loud K&N cold air intake. My last 2014 F150 barely got 13.5 in town when I babied it. But I do miss the 370 horsepower and the 355 posi it had in it. Hoping to snag a deal on a nice Borla exhaust system on the 4th of July sales. That should balance the sound of the K&N.

Just recently bought a set of these wheels for $200. Someone I work with has a set of 5 tires brand new bfg mud terrain of 255/75/17 for $500 bucks. Would this set up work for the TRD sport? I'm pretty clueless as to wheels but I do know it would be a 1" diameter jump in tire size from stock. Any help would be appreciated.

No problem with size and wheel combo on a sport. Tires are 31" diameter and 10" wide. If you have factory mud flaps up front they may rub on turns. The best advice would be to remove flaps or add 1/2" spacers for $75 on top of the coil/strut mount. Will make front almost level and give you clearance for the mud flaps. That is only .400" bigger diameter than 265/70/17 KO tires that clear sports with no problem.
