I have seen a post before on the same subject but no answer, so I ask the same basic question done before.
    - has anybody done it or has info of the weight of the 2-gen vs. of the 3-gen tacos nose part? As in drive the taco on a scale up to the end of door and check the nose/engine weight. At work next to me is a 2-gen taco and his front coils are thinner compared to mine which means the nose of the 3-gen taco is heavier. I have been informed that the weight difference is about 182lb between them. I know somebody can find the weights of the engines but need to know the whole nose stock build weight.

Well, considering the size of that front grill and lower bumper extension, I'm thinking at least 500 lbs.....maybe more.

I would have figured the old 4.0 would be heavier than the 3.5 thus making it lighter up front.

While the weight of a 2nd gen Tacoma varies depending on the driver, generally they wear much lighter loafers therefore need lighter springs.

    You really should have known.

After market suspension parts are all marketed and sold the same for Tacomas 05+. Shouldn't be much of any weight difference. Things to think about that adds weight; tow package (Oil cooler, bigger alternator, bigger oil pan?), accessories (moon roof, heated seats components, buttons wires, sensors, fake hood scoop).

Bigger springs do not always mean they have a higher K coefficient. Having narrower coils width you can reduce spring cross sectional area since the moment from one coil to the next is smaller if the K coefficient is the same.

I think most of that is in the damn hood alone. I opened the hood of my truck today and that is one huge slab of steel. I'm hoping Toyota will start including aluminum into their car/truck lineup.

Economy of scale, use it more in your product line the code will get spread out

More and more car companies are mixing metals to reduce weight and improve performance and mileage.

Ha! When I first opened my hood I thought something was wrong because it was so heavy!
