Alignment Cam Sham

Found out my front passenger side cam bolt is stripped and need to (hopefully) get my truck back together for an appointment for an alignment at 4. Dealer always does next day so it wouldn't work. Do auto part stores sell these without having to order them? It would make everything go much smoother tomorrow. Thank you! Help is appreciated

This is what happened that I need to replace the front lag bolt - the threads that are flattened down between the larger diameter and smaller diameter parts were much larger and I had to file them down in the middle of the night - it was literally the last part I had to take off before I was ready to put all my stock parts back on

Oh well. Glad to have the parts taken off at least - more funds for my new first gen.

Got a junkyard around you can pick one out of? Either that or specialty makes replacement bolts. Try xl parts of you have one or orielys. Other parts houses make alignment parts too but they aren't specialty brand. Moog North Star, stemph, and a few others. Start driving around or calling to parts houses if you don't have a wrecked Toyota in a junkyard. Anything from 05 to now should work for an alignment eccentric bolt

 

My local Oreilly had the same cam bolts in stock for me a few weeks ago

 

Do a search on here... Most people seem to not like the Moog stuff for to the bad design and end up reverting back to OEM stuff.

 

I prefer specialty above all else when it comes to alignment parts. I will use moog when I'm in a pinch. Maybe the OP is in a pinch?

Alright O'Reilly's had a set for $45-ish with tax that I can pick up today - dealerships would have to be on Tuesday since they don't ship parts on Sunday and Monday and none had the real bolt (front through bolt) I needed in stock. I'm sure the O'Reilly's parts are junk or close to it, but the truck needs to be getting me to work Monday.

Firestone is having a $69.99 deal on alignments right now. They come with a 12 month warranty so I can eventually swap in more OEM hardware and go back for a check. Here's the O'Reilly's parts.

I'm thinking now whether I want to frankenstein together a setup using OEM parts for the rear bolt assembly and the O'Reilly's parts for the front or if I should just throw both O'Reilly's on. Thoughts, questions, concerns?

I'm gonna pick them up in an hour or so - we'll see how they compare in dimensions to OEM. All I care about atm is to get my truck on the road by tomorrow afternoon. I'll get a more permanent fix going in the future.

Good call on the junk yard btw - it's my daily driver though and there aren't any nearby

 

I have about 40 junkyards I can sift through about 15 miles away from me. It's always fun to find cool shit for next to nothing. It brings out the lowballer in me too when it comes time to pay for my bounty.

 

Those aftermarket ones are terrible. The alignment tab itself strips and springs freely of the bolt. Do yourself a favor and order oem stuff

 

That's the plan. Just have to get the truck on the road for now!

Yeah that shouldn't be a problem. They have the same dimensions. Shouldn't be a problem when the alignment comes.

I wasn't sure if that thank you! I have to chase some threads on the rear one and clearance out the cam tab gusset slot to fit the bolt without any interference. I'm not sure why it was getting pinched / maybe the cam tab gussets were just a little out of spec they shrunk a little from being welded - not sure if that would be possible or not though. Doesn't seem likely if other people haven't had this problem

 

Some good bearing grease and antiseize goes along way when it comes to alignment parts like eccentrics and tie rods.

 

Yep - learned the grease idea from the guy that installed the long travel kit. Got the other side complete with bearing grease. The washers have SPC on the washers - looks like I got this kit: Just paid almost twice the price for it, but convenience...
