Monsoon like rain here on the Gulf Coast and noticed my back seat wet. Mostly on the drivers side. Water in the storage area behind the seat. I am not a happy camper. Just wanted to check here if this is a common problem before I call the dealer and share my unhappiness.

On this subject can you get a replacement rear windshield without the stupid sliding glass. If anyone has got one please share cost. I never liked the sliding glass crap, was amazed I could not buy a truck without it.

Is the headliner wet too? Some people had water coming in through the 3rd brake light on the back of the cabin, bad seal job.

We have a second home at the west end of PCB (Gulf Coast). Was down there last Tuesday/Wednesday and it rained hard all day. I drove back to LA ("lower Alabama") on Wednesday morning and was in a driving rain storm most of the way home. I had heard about the leaks in the Tacoma and I have owned mine for around a year and a half. Fortunately I have not experienced any leaks yet although mine is garaged every night (except at the beach). I figured if it was going to leak it would do so in the monsoon rain you mentioned in your post. Fortunately mine stayed dry except for what got in opening/closing the passenger door. At one time it was raining so hard that a quick opening of the door filled the WeatherTech mat. I know you are unhappy (as I would be) and I hope the dealer resolves the issue for you. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I read somewhere on TW that there are pop-out plugs below the rear window between the body and the bed and some leaking can occur there (assuming your headliner is not damp. But, then again my memory is vague on the "plugs" but I'm sure some knowledge member can point you in the right direction. BTW, don't mind my sliding rear glass except I wish it was powered like my 12' Tundra. It has come in handy on the few times I have opened it.

What you are referring to are the rear cab vents ....through which air escapes when closing doors or fan is on ... and the cab air goes out there.
Those vents are VERY sloppy (plastic...clip-in junk that does NOT seat tightly)..and I have used caulking from the inside to seal around them, as I had an issue with cabin road noise.... This helped the noise issue.... might be good for the H2O issue as well..!!

But I bet it's coming in from the brake light...

I noticed water coming from the headliner below the third brake light while going through a touchless car wash.

Took it to the dealer, found out whoever installed the third brake light at the factory forgot to remove the paper backing on the seal. Like the paper backings you peal off an adhesive pad.

Just got call from dealership, brake light was where the leak was. They installed new brake light. I'm glad they didn't just re-seal it. The service guy admitted it was a "common problem".

Unfortunately this is a common problem. I just wish I could get all the take-offs that are perfectly fine(just need a new seal)

We had monsoon like rains here in the northeast over the weekend too. My truck was soaked!! Seats, carpet... I could not believe how much water leaked in. Took it to Toyota today and it was the 3rd brake light seal. They have to order a new assembly. Won't be here for about a week. This is strike 2 for Toyota.... First the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor went 700 miles from home. We have a GMC 3500 that has had multiple recalls so far and its a 2015, so not exclusive to Toyota. Just hoping the "bad things come in 3" theory does not apply!:fingerscrossed:
I'm thinking the moral of the story is to wait, and not buy the first edition of a new generation, even though we love the truck, clearly they had some kinks to work out.

Had the same happen to my 2016 Tacoma here in South FL after a week of monsoon rains too. I couldn't believe the amount of water that got into the truck- combined with our ridiculously hot temps, the result was the inside of my cab smelling like rotten fish. Not a happy camper with Toyota so far.. :/ Took the truck to dealership- 3rd brake light leak was the issue. They've since installed a new one but having an issue getting that "musty" smell out of the truck, even after Toyota's alleged "carpet cleaning process".

Are they also going to clean/replace the seats?

The seats are fine no water stains on them or the headliner. The majority of the water ended up in the storage compartment behind the back seat. Carpet did not get wet. It is getting tested today, more heavy rain all day here in Mobile.

Beginning to sound like this should be a recall.

If it is hot out side take a jar and fill it half way with some vinegar. Set that in the cab when you are not driving it. It should help clear the air.

We got nailed by back to back severe thunder storms here in central PA yesterday and while I was loading some groceries into the back for the evening festivities, I found water all over the back of the cab. (see below)

Took it to the dealership to at least get it documented. The lead tech said he's seen this before. Had 3 tacomas come in prior to mine with a leaking rear window seal. Window's ordered. Now to wait for it to come in and get that scheduled. Wasn't expecting a one year old truck to leak like this, but at least it's within the initial two year warranty period...

Same thing just started happening to me. Not sure what the hell is going on. I've have the truck since nov 2015. No prior problems.

Just started noticing water on the driver side only. Packed it with a crap load of desiccant packets till I can get to the dealership. Hoping they won't blame it on so etuive done

Toyota had a problem with the gasket around the third brake light. They were getting pinched in the packing process. They have had to buy back a few trucks because of this. Take it in and they will take care of it.
