What do you guys think?

I kno this is not a tacoma thing but any automotive lover can have an opinion on this.

Lately my dad and i have been talking about project cars and such. We recently got on the topic (since i plan on mechanical engineering in college) that we would build us a fun track car. We fell upon the idea of a "monster miata". maybe some of you guys have heard of this.

The concept is to take a mazda miata and put a v8 in it, and haul ass on the track and make the guys with their supercars feel like shit.

Hopefully my dad will pull through with the idea and hook me up with this project..right now we are pretty set on letting me build the engine from the ground up. mostlikely a 302 or 347 ford small block . Completely redoing a 90s model miata and make this baby a racing machine.

My mother has a miata that I have always toyed the idea of doing that to. You have to remember with that heavy V8 up there you are going to mess with the weight distribution. I would just turbocharge the 4 that is in it. You can make PLENTY of power out of the stock motor that would kill the 5.0 any day. Especially with the cost of the whole setup. The kit alone is close to $5,000.00 and that's no motor. IF you were serious about it...I'd opt for the LS (corvette) swap kit. I can't make do with this project right now as all my money is being thrown into my track/street R6 at the moment. I tell myself all the time with all the money I've spent on this damn bike...I could have one ellova bad track car.

The miata is a great choice for a track car though!

I've checked them out before...Trust me, i've done TONS of research on this thing

 

the good thing is that money hopefully wont be too much of an issue because we are going to try to sell our wakeboard boat. if that goes well we will have plenty of extra cash. The one thing that is really keepin us from keepin the stock motor is that my moms cousin (who is a god with cars) did that and went through 2 or 3 engines because they get so tuned up to get the power and he keeps blowing them. ...and im a sucker for that v8 growl

could also do a v6 swap into an mr2 or an LS1 into a 240sx
