Your Opinion on Roof Top Tent

No idea. Never had a bed cover. I don't know how you'd mount it without cross bars though. @KB Voodoo sells bed bars that work with bed covers I believe.

 

I like the concept of them, but for me they are just way to expensive and make my already tall truck taller.

For what it's worth, love my CVT RTT but it's too much drag and too tall on the roof. I prefer to mount mine to my bed bars I made and I'll never sleep on the floor again. Tepuis, from what I've seen & felt, same quality but CVT has awesome customer service in MY experience.

 

So I just got my prinsu mounted this weekend with a 23 Zero Litchfield tent.

The prinsu is a low profile rack and I bought 2 extra rails. I believe I will just remove the 2 crossbars it is mounted to and put the 2 spares back in when I take it off the truck. It was not easy getting the tent on with the limited space. Love the rack thou.

The Litchfield is little lighter than the others and comes with the sky view and annex. Haven't slept in it yet thou.

 

Any pics, and updates on this? The prinsu rack work to carry the weight of a tent, and reg size couple? install? Difficulty of putting tent up, and taking down if doing solo? Wind noise? I get pretty bad mpg now, so any ideas to set it up to where it's not going to be horribly much worse?

I've got a '17 access cab TRD-OR, and want to put it up on the cab roof.

I've been lurking on this topic here for a bit now, and further away from when I started. Figured I ask now to get something. Ha

The prinsu is great. I have a double cab, so everything bolted right into the factory spots. I can hear a little wind noise from the deflector, but it is not bad. I have the optional weather seal and I believe that helps.

It is easier to mount the bars to the tent and then mount it all back on the rack. With the prinsu being low profile, it was difficult to get the nuts started under the rails with them mounted to the truck. It can be possible to mount solo, but takes some ingenuity. I saw a video of a guy "flipping" the tent onto his tailgate then from the tailgate to his shell rack.

I ended up buying some bed bars though for my tent for my Moab trip. 3400 miles round trip, I decided having it out of the wind would pay for the bars vs gas. I may put it back on the top when I get there so my annex is higher.

I just realize I asked this in a 2nd gen thread, but still seems it's been tricky to get what I'm looking for on mine. I'm needing to figure out if their access cab one on their site is pretty easy install too. Also the weight max as I'm trying to confirm the OEM standard. Read somewhere on here 500lbs, but that was for ones 3 or so yrs ago. Not sure if it would be the same for a '17.

i like my tepui ruggedized its 200lbs vs 150 for the regular ones. We are trying to use it as much as possible. (this is our summer vacation for this year.) I had to upgrade my leafs to expos becuase the allpro standards couldnt handle the rrt in the bed(ass sagging). My wife says our ruggedized felt like it was flapping less in super windy conditions when we were camped next to our friends reg tepui.

 

I don't have one with the annex installed. Let me see what I have. I know I got a few in Moab with it on the bed bars

question for you about tent & rack on tacoma...I've heard multiple times that mounting the tent on the cab is not the best idea for stability, mileage, weight etc. however..i really want to mount my tepui tent on the cab...what are your thought on this and what has your experience been mounting on cab vs. below the roofline in bed? and do you have the prinsu cabrac?
