I had 40mi on my truck & the crawl control and 4x4 was already broken in quite well. That being said - at my 5k my leafs were squeaking. I mentioned it & the shop foreman came out and told me I needed to stop beating it up off road.. walked him back to the end of the bed side and presented the 4x4 sticker and then proceeded to show him the crawl control panel inside and explained that it was all for OFF ROAD and not exactly PAVEMENT conditions. End result: Leaf springs replaced!:muscleflexing:

Went in for 10k - normal servicing... oil change, rotation, fluids etc - all good, except tag light was out. Same shop foreman basically says he knows I push this truck hard and it probably had something to do with that. They replaced it on "good will". :jerkoff:

Fast forward to the 15k service - between the 10k and 15k I developed a very strange "pendulum" swinging in the rear is how I can best describe it as. I then again got the look of "stop beating your truck". I then reverted back to battle plan "A" and presented the 4x4 stickers. They said they'd "take a look at it and let me know..." turns out when they replaced the leafs originally they torqued them down while the truck was in the air, not on the ground (I think that's what they said at least - roles might be reversed) and that's what caused the over torque on the leafs. End result: replaced leafs again. Yay!

Today, rear tag light is out again. 20k service is coming up.

Best believe I will be polishing up that bed side sticker to have it ready for show case along with my printed off TSB papers :quickdraw:

Pendulum is either gas in gas tank slopping around or it is a loose spare tire. One you cannot really fix. The other is a quick fix. Let us know how it turns out! Make sure you post your pic of "Chillin in the Service Dept"

Why are you pointing at the 4x4 part and not the part that says "OFF-ROAD" ?? :boink:

Stick to specifics when dealing with a dealership. Off-Road could mean driving on grass, or gravel, etc. Plus, there is just a Off-Road trim that looks identical to the 4x4 OR but is NOT 4x4 in which they would pitch you with "well its not the 4x4 so why would you take it there? the vehicle is not meant for that". I was a service advisor - I know how the game works. :hattip:

I got mine fixed not long after I bought it and now a year later they are still clear. I wonder if this would make any difference?

Toyota only pays the service center for 6 minutes of labor if they replace the entire lamp housings.

Have you ever tried to get one out yourself?

Maybe I just have giant clumsy hands but you have to reach your hand through a small opening to depress the tabs that hold it in. Took me an hour of cursing and cutting the shit out of my hand.

Cake. Swapped my bulbs in seconds.(okay, maybe a minute). Bottom tab is easy access, top tab just needs a long hook tool to depress it.
Luckily I'm switching out to Baja flush's so I'll never have to deal with these POS again

Ok well in the absence of a long hook tool fingers will eventually get it, though only once half of your sanity is gone.

Mine was a mild but recurring case. Others had it completely full of brown muck.

The dealer is paid 3 hours to replace the wiring harness, which is the actual culprit. Note the lamp housing is being replaced with the same P/N. 6 minutes incremental time to replace the lamp housings is tight but not unreasonable.

But yeah, dealers typically don't make a profit on warranty work. This is why some dealers are reluctant to do TSBs like rear spring harsh ride - the dealer would prefer to keep the service bays occupied with more profitable out-of-warranty work.

Have you tried sticking your hand up behind the bumper to change the light bulbs with the tow package?

the wiring harness is only replaced when the parking sensors are wacked. If you don't have parking sensors and have water in your light fixtures, the service center is paid 6 minutes to replace the fixtures

No, I have no parking sensors whatsoever on my SR and my harness was replaced.

The harness is the cause for the water intrusion.

Previous to this TSB the standard procedure was to only replace the housings, however in most cases the issue was not resolved, even after pointing out that the customer had already recieved 4 or more replacement housings. Toyota finally caught on that this was a symptom and not the cause, and issued the TSB.

    Wrong.

"For vehicles without blind spot monitor sensors or ultrasonic sensors, use Repair Procedure 2 (page 10)."

    "Repair Procedure 2
For vehicles without blind spot monitor sensor system and/or ultrasonic sensors, use the following Repair Procedure:
    1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable.
    2. Remove the No. 3 frame wire harness and license plate lamp(s).
    ...
    3. Install the NEW No. 3 frame wire harness and license plate lamp(s)."

I had a total of three tag light fails,on the fourth they replaced it with light and harness ,they didn't give me paperwork I suppose it was covered by the TSB. and still under 25,000 miles .My original post from Mar.
they tried the "Must have been wheeling" But you'd have to bury the back end to get water in, they will try anything not to fix it correctly.
