so lucky me, in my brand new 2017 SR Tacoma, out of no where there was a cinder block in the middle of the road that I couldn't avoid and I ended up going right over it. After removing the front air dam, I noticed there was a dent in what I think is my skid plate? Or is this my oil pan? (sorry, first tacoma) Anyway, I want to replace this damaged peice being that this is a brand new car and I want the "flawless" feeling of things. Would I be able to get a TRD skid plate to replace this damage? Help IMG_0352.jpg

That's just a sheet metal splash guard. You can find them cheap from guys that buy real skids. Unbolt it to look for other damage on your crossmembers and stuff. How's the T case and Y pipe?

sheet metal splash guard? Never heard of it, sorry guys, I came from the import scene and i'm getting into trucks now. Anyway, is that the actual name of the part? I want to call Toyota & get a quote on the piece to replace it. That & the plastic air dam seems like the only thing that's actually damaged. Also, would I be able to just get a TRD skid plate and just remove this dented peice completely?

Yes. But you should still take it off and check underneath it for damage.

Some people call it a skid plate, but as you can see, it's very thin and would only act as a skid plate if you hit it on sand. I smashed mine on dirt ruts.

No problem. Hopefully there isn't any damage under there. The hollow tile block probably shattered on impact. Your oil pan is pretty well protected by the IFS crossmembers.

welcome to TW. upgrade your skid! TRD pro or RCI or any of the others out there. Search TW for skid plates and you will get a bunch of hits. Sorry about the cylinder block.

Thanks guys for the welcome guys! Most likely leaning toward the TRD skid plate. I'm also kind of on a budget though, anyone know any cheaper skid plates?

Also recommend a Mobtown Skid! Replaces that thin wimpy thing with some beefy ass steel. Now you can plow through cinder blocks on purpose.

That's a splash pan. It protects the underside from.. splashes, and getting into hot engine surfaces and electrical systems.

The TRD skid plate is aluminum and while fairly strong for debris, probably would be damaged from a cinder block also. If you want it looking brand new, get a new splash pan. Add a TRD skid for looks only, but if you're not off-roading and want more protection on the street then it'll serve you pretty well.

Steel skid plates are heavier, so your front end will lower to some degree, and are likely overkill for your needs unless you offroad around rocks.

Damages to the finish of a steel skid will cause rusting, so consider that going forward. Rock chips on the highway included. They're not without their own maintenance.

I would also go with real skids.

And then there is the in-between, 1/4" aluminum skids, which are much lighter than steel, won't rust, and much much stronger than the TRD skids.
