Thanks for all the feedback and advice everyone! Seems to be something a good number of us have noticed and that reassures me that it is most likely normal. I'm going to assume that there isn't anything wrong with my truck. I've been working on keeping it in gear more in general and when coming to a stop on bumps. Thanks for the help everyone and keep this thread updated with any new findings!!

2nd Gen 6MAs have this quirk too. Was unnerving at first, but you get used to it.

Been driving for about 200km now and had many opportunities to put it in neutral. Haven't heard and clubking, mind you this is highway driving... Hope this isn't an issue like the rear end shimmy lm the 2nd gens was...

In other news, I have successfully cleared 15.1L/100km
Not sure what that is in MPG

You have to be in neutral and going over pretty substantial bumps like potholes, speed bumps or washboard to hear it. You won't hear it on smooth pavement. Don't think it's an issue. Sounds like it's normal for some parts to have some play.

Good to hear other trucks have this quirk. I figured it had something to do with not being in gear and some of the parts having some give/play.

My 6MT Frontier has the same noise between gears or coasting in neutral over bumps such as train tracks or pot holes.

15.5mpg is what that translates to, yikes!

Well I went over a bunch of railroad tracks today and took it out of gear. I did not hear a rattle. I'll try again........

Now that I am paying attention, I get a little rattly-clunk when going depressing the clutch in some gears, namely first and second, and when shifting into neutral. It is depended on RPM and engine load at the time I find though.

What? This is the Tacoma World 3rd Gen forum! You are supposed to "lawyer up" and go sue their asses if your truck makes any noise at all. All parts are supposed to stay exactly where they are when the truck is parked in the Walmart parking lot. :annoyed::argue:  :smash:

Oh by the way I tried coasting over a few rough patches of pavement/manholes and didn't hear anything on the way home from work yesterday. But the stick shift did wiggle like a titty dancer :taco:

Went on rough roads, over train tracks, pot holes, speed bumps in neutral and depressing clutch going 25 mph: all quiet, no noises from transmission. 3700 miles.

Ok thanks for the feedback. At this point I'm not sure what to do. Seems like some are experiencing this and some are not.

Reviving this. Same noise going on with my new 17' manual. Any news or all seems good. Totally fine if it's the norm just curious what is actually happening under the truck when the noise is occurring. What's making that sound. Sounds like hollow rattling in a can. Coasting in neutral down my dirt driveway. Thanks and sorry if reviving this pisses any one off.

I'm always a fan of reviving threads vs. starting a new one when the same topic already exists. With that being said, I've owned two manual Tacomas; a 2015 and a 2005, both 6MT. Both have the clanks when coasting over a speed bump or something similar. I wouldn't worry about it.

The trans is very clunky. Mine does it too, I think its just the play in the moints
