Maybe because peak torque is at 4600 rpm on the 3.5 and 4000rpm on the 4.0

The superior Horse Power of the 3.5 helps it maintain its speed despite being a smaller engine.

The truck isn't what you wanted. Don't buy one. Keep the truck you have and keep driving it.

Probably because there are so few problems, unlike the 3rd gen section, that makes things a lot more interesting.

I'm honestly not sure how someone would still want to buy one after a test drive...

At least you were smart enough to test drive one before plopping down 35 large. Lots of threads around here of folks complaining about all kinds of things that would have been revealed in a decent test drive.

Why not just keep what you've got? Let the whole 'new car itch' thing pass.

No new problems you likely meant to say, plenty of you guys are still dealing with a lot of the old problems.

Many go in predetermined to purchase. I was one of them.

Honestly, if I had driven one of the 2017 models I drove first, I may have bought it.

But my first drive was in a pre-TSB 2016 that shifted terribly and that one spoiled the soup for me, as I now noticed the funky transmission on all of them I drove.

"New Car Fever" is a thing and salespeople LOVE to see a customer get infected with it.

What's funny is most people still buy them after the horrible test drive.

I can live with 2nd gen issues and fixing them. But I can't live with an under powered motor that doesn't know how to shift and gets horrible gas mileage. You can't fix bad design. Toyota really dropped the ball. Maybe this is why they stick to the same generation longer than most manufactures.

I bought mine over the phone without a test drive and never even test drove a Tacoma. Paid MSRP, rode a train 3 hours to get it and the only thing I regret is I wish I would have done it earlier. Love mine.

The good thing is you didn't drive an earlier Tacoma to compare. You did it the best way!

I'm definitely jelly of your trucks color. They are beautiful when I see them. Plus you got MT. Nice rig!

As a fellow second gener, do you always give a negative vibe to third gens? I know the third gens are still in the infancy, but its not like the second gens didn't have 5-10 years of issues depending on who you ask. Im just waiting for my engine to stop cold one day due to that one sensor failure as it is for the 2012s. Toyota has had vehicle issues with virtually every platform that they have created, which honestly isn't too surprising when creating something new there will be obstacles to overcome.
