I personally would start with some starting fluid. If it fires and dies it is a fuel issue. That way you can at least determine whether the issue is fuel or not.

I would start with a compression check. If it has bad compression there is no sense in going any further.

Just spitballing here, did you remove the "secondary" air filter? I wonder if that were drenched if it would starve the engine for air.

The 05 doesn't have the secondary air system.

If there is water in the intake then I'm sure the mass did get wet.

All these ideas are why I'm saying scan for codes. Just might give some insight into which electronics are on the fritz. Maybe not, but maybe

Anyone I've ever met who flooded a vehicle, and wanted to keep it, had to tear the engine down nearly complete (i. e. down to bearings and rings n such) to get ALL the water out.
All you've done is get the bulk of it out, do better if you love this truck that much!

Saw someone say to empty diffs and t-case, do this. I got stuck in a mud hole up to the jambs and all my diffs had a little muddy water in them after I changed them, they needed done anyway though.

You're vehicle now should have a salvage/rebuilt title btw. If you resell it and DON'T tell someone this happened, you're not a very good human. FYI

-not trying to kick while you're down, but think things through, don't half-ass it, you just sucked water into your engine and hydro-locked it. Check entire fuel system, check all electronics, check ignition system, check internals inside the motor. More work than you think.

    Good luck!

Flooded motors are not uncommon and can easily be returned to running condition as long as "water lock" did not bend or break anything.

Electronics on the other hand need time to dry. I would have waited a few days while getting the water out to give the electronics time to dry. At minimum I would have pulled the ecu for and tried to blow dry it.

Be positive and don't let it get to you, we all do dumb shit sometimes.

no that is for the AC system, I don't think the Tacoma had a bleeder/cleaner hookup, but I could be wrong.

This is exactly why I avoid used vehicles unless I know it's history well (family or friend vehicle). The savings buying used are real, but you have a decent chance of getting a damaged/terribly maintained vehicle. In this case vast majority of people would get it running if possible and trade it in or sell it with no disclosure.

If the engine turns over it's not hydro locked. Locked means it doesn't turn. If it turns it could be a good sign. When we had the tax day flood I had 6 cars that needed engines due to being driven in high water. I was able to save one of them. All others got long blocks due to bent rods or dropped valves.
