Diff drop not needsled on 2nd Gen. Don't listen to the stealerships tech's. One told me that the super charger will give you over 500HP. As he drove off in a customer's super charged truck. Wow, never went there again

Yup, and lifting the rear puts a different angle on the rear driveshaft and lifting the front puts a different angle on the CV shafts.

    Step 1: Install Lift
Step 2: observe wear on CV boots
Step 3A: Do nothing CV boots are fine
Step 3B: CV boots wearing, diff drop time
    Step 4: Profit.

I have a 2.5ish OME lift (not quite 3 due to extra weight)
Have I broken CV axles? yes.
Was it from CV boot wear? no.

From my own truck, I've learned that a diff drop is not needed.
From the Internet, I've learned that some people need it to stop CV boot wear.

Is there a clear answer? Yes, It depends on how your truck handles a lift. Apparently they aren't all exactly a like.

Was this post helpful? Probs nah, but I tried real hard.

I had 5100s set at 1.75 for 6 years with no dif drop and had multiple boots fail without really off-roading . Now I have 6112s at the top setting (2.47 " ) with a dif drop and my cv angles are much better and the fins on the boots do not touch .

I want to take my diff drop out but it was on it when i bought the truck so no idea. how easy is it to take out and do i need any parts. Also there seems to be nothing wrong with my truck so no reason i want to take it our besides TW brainwashing me into thinking its bad. Really want to see if i can tell a difference.

Just unbolt the diff in the front ( 2 bolts) and remove the drop kit,you will have too shorten the bolts the thickness of the spacers using a hacksaw, and you are done. Why do you want too take it out anyway?

It's not causing you any problems and there is a 99.99999879% chance it never will cause you any problems. It's improving your cv angles so why not just leave it? :notsure:

I'd be curious to see some actual proof that they do nothing. :tumbleweed:

Remember the drop kit does not do anything too the LCA,so the bottom picture has a depressed suspension, that's why the axle angle is less, its not because of the drop kit.

I think @Justinlhc and I are the only advocates for diff drops here  Seriously, show me a single case of a front diff failing from starved oil.

I haven't seen a real good case against it besides people just saying "doesn't work on second gen"

Never said they caused any failures, just said they don't do much other than just tilting the diff a tiny bit.
