The splash guard didn't do shit. The crossmember behind it is what crushed the block. You can literally bend the splash guard in half with your bare hands.

Yes, but for most guys who never leave the pavement, it's adequate enough

yes, but obviously it's strengthened when in position and tightened up. I'm just saying for most people it's adequate protection. Most people here think guys that never leave pavement need full underbody armor. Obviously if you're rock crawling or doing some seriously off-roading that's not enough protection

Here's the pic. Some water spots and the line on the top left seems to be either caked on dirt or maybe a little rust but can be easily removed with the right cleaners. Let me know if your family can pick it up for free.

What model is your car? Because I just came back from the dealer & he said the TRD skid plate won't fit my car without modifications :(

Dealer basically said I need a 4x4 model, I see that you have a 4x4 so I'm assuming it won't fit :(. Anyone know any aftermarket skid plates that will fit the base 2017 tacoma SR?

The dealer said it's been done before, but with modifications. But I did find a skid plate for my car IMG_0374.jpg

It says its good for all models, and seems very similar in design to the trd skid. I dont get why the other ones wouldnt work. And this will...

Maybe spacing issues? I'm sure a body shop would be able to make it fit if modifications were needed. Maybe I need to speak to someone else at the dealership, the guy I talked to didn't seem too "knowledgeable" about taco parts.

Most dealers don't really know what they are talking about to be honest. They just go off of their computer and if it doesn't say the model they automatically say it can't fit. For example when I ordered my TRD Pro skid plate they said I couldn't fit it since the listing said Pro and Offroad model only and mine is a Sport. I'd say take yours off and compare the mounting points to mine in the pic.

That's true because the skid plate that I was looking at (BPF) skid plate, it said it would fit all models. So why would that skid plate fit all models but the TRD one wouldn't? The body style in the front is basically the same. All of this is giving me a headache lol. But yeah when I have time, I'll take my splash pan off & check the mounting holes.

Wish I could see that on video.. Must of looked funny plowing over it. Shit'll buff out OP. Should be your Skid Plate. Id take the 4 bolts off and look closer for more damage behind it. The oil filter might sit right behind that damaged spot. Also take a hammer to the plate and move on.

But let me get one thing straight, the skid plate replaces the splash guard right? Am I right? Or does the skid plate go over the splash guard?

So I wouldn't be able to just remove the splash guard & get a skid plate?

Depends on the skid plate. The TRD one as well as the BPF go over it. Other ones such as Mobtown Offroad replace it.
