Hey if you ever bring that boat near Laramie, Im a certified sailing instructor and would love to hope on a boat out here. Granted I'm certified for 21 ft. and under but I have been racing on boats up to 35ft down in Florida.

Indeed. I go to the national forest almost daily to run Ash. BabyT has gotten more dirt time in the past month than she has in the past year or so . Heading out in a bit to go swim in the river and beat the heat.

 

Whats up everyone?

I'll be heading up to your state in about a week to explore, find dirt, awesome views and campsites. I was reminded that the Morrison Trail is not open until July 15th at the earliest and hasn't been open until later the last few years. Are there any places to check with, other than maybe the FS about the condition of the trail and if it'll be opening on time?

I'll be doing it by myself unless anybody wants to tag along!

And if anyone has any trips planned in the western half of the state in the next two to three weeks, and wouldnt mind me tagging along, I'm up for that as well.

 

Well that's good. Then you won't sell it haha headed to the Pryor mountains tonight and tomorrow for more scouting.

Yeah this year ill be surprised if Morrison opens in July at all.

And all the good trails up there don't open till July 15th anyways. But could go check out lulu pass by Cooke city. Sun light basin too south of cooke

Is Magruder trail the one @Digiratus and yourself talk about fairly often? Ran it a few years back I think? My coworkers keep telling me to do it and take them with. Guess it's about 3 days (taking your time and really enjoying the scenery) and pretty remote. Spits you out around Missoula, MT.

Ash and I plan on taking 5 days this summer to truly enjoy that one.

 

the Magruder and the Lolo are there. They parallel each other. Lolo trail is off hwy 12. Magruder comes out further south around Darby/Hamilton area.

Both are pretty areas though. Just goes through the massive Bitteroot wilderness. Personally, the Lolo has better views. But both can be done in 2 days if you drive at a decent pace. They are fun

we have done the lolo twice. Thats where the SOS trip starts and Frank exploded.

 

They look great. I figured 3 days on the trail. A night in Missoula to fill my foodie needs and then a slow drive back home.

 

Yeah they are great. The big place you'll wanna go to is called Paradise off the Magruder. Pretty much the only major junction and follows a beautiful river and has camping a long it and a nice big spot at the end. Be great fishing when the river calms a bit.

 

As they've said. Magruder is a worthy escape. Two camp nights on the trail really. Something like 120 miles starting in the graingeville area and coming out on highway 93 near Darby MT, about 25 miles north of Gibbons Pass Id/MT state line.

That is the Selway river. I read that the road to Paradise got washed out by an avalanche this past winter. Hopefully it has been reopened.

Just got back from the Pryor mountains. Was a blast. Drove 102miles of dirt. Checked out the route for the fall. Need to go back to test out a switchback area we missed. Ice cave was super cool (literally). Saw a black bear and around 200 wild horses. Big wide open mountains. Very different area. Super cool.

 

Isn't there a wild horse preserve/monument in the Priors?

Yeah. What we drove through after the ice cave. Was cool. Never seen so many at once.

 

That will be cool to see.
