My coffee pot crapped out a couple months ago. It has been redesigned multiple times over the past 10 years....can/should I sue?

I think this is the part that makes this different than other problems with other manufacturers.

If it was shown that even when following the manufacturer maintanence schedule to a T that a certain group of Tacomas (determined by VIN) had head gasket leaks disproportionately to the exact same engine that received an updated gasket then there might be cause for action.

If Toyota had never changed the gasket then this wouldn't be something worth even thinking about, but they did.

I really doubt you would say that if your truck had the head gasket problem.

I always wonder what an engineer would do if asked whether a recall should be in order or not, rather than ask the business/legal department.

Edit: not sure if that's how it works, but I still wonder about these things.

I think everyone can agree that old trucks were made to a ridiculously different standard...before safety, fuel efficiency, and looking "cool" became a thing.

It will be one of those deals where the lawyers get millions and the class gets an oil change coupon. Stop feeding the lawyers

Can you explain where the failure is and how it's failed. How do you know yours is bad? Symptoms? That might help someone identify a problem with their own.

after dealing with multiple 3k$+ issues on american made vehicles from the mid 90's to ~ 2005.... an issue with a headgasket at 100ishk miles on any newly designed motor wouldnt surprise me... and honestly id do the job myself over a weekend and MAYBE have 300 bucks in parts in fixing it.... your point is moot.

But go ahead, have fun with your class action lawsuit. Have you even tried contacting toyota....

WTF is your malfunction here ? Just because this is the first time you have heard about this issue ? Tons of people have been chasing Toyota for years about this use the search function on TW or just f'n google it ...$300 to fix it huh you must own a machine shop that can check and mill the heads for free ?

I would say that if I had the head gasket issue. I would never have even thought about suing. If it were me, I'd buy new head gaskets and spend a weekend in the garage. Boom problem solved, truck runs great, time the repair took was minimal, cost would strictly be the cost of the parts (so minimal), and nobody would have ever mentioned suing Toyota.

The same outcome as the Ticketmaster suit. Anyone that bought tickets during a certain time period got coupons for about $2 off while lawyers got their pockets filled. Big whoopdeedoo

This reminds me of my 95 runner with the 3.slow motor. Had it literally for 10 years cause the head gasket blew and got a new engine, 6 months later Toyota recognized that the head gaskets were faulty and would replace if peoples engine weren't already replaced. So to OP, I say go for it man. If there is enough proof in a faulty design, which must of been significant enough for the first two years to get a redesign then you should be on to something. I think chasing the numbers right now is the best thing to see where this goes. I imagine Toyota wont just bend over for this, but they have history with other models failing within a ten year criteria like my 4runner that was proven to warrant a country wide recall. I don't see how you cant persue this here.

i had the issue with my 05 but i bought the truck used with 145k on it :notsure:
I dont expect any company to warranty something that old with that kind of mileage. It sucks but i fixed it myself with some other items and am good to go for at least another 150k+ miles with the newly designed gasket.
