I had to liberally apply hammer to the upper inner fender on both sides on my truck. But I also used a pair of cut down stock bumps as my bump limit and brand new tires when I tubbed. That way I knew I would be damn sure to clear with normal bumps and eventual tire wear.

What you'll find is that those of us who have tubbed for 35s have pretty varying experiences as far as what needed to be cut and smashed. I think Mike (@cynicalrider) didn't end up taking nearly as much firewall as I did, for instance.

When you adjust your upper control arms for more caster, you are pushing the tire closer to the firewall. Try to max out the lower control arms caster, then adjust the uppers as needed. That will give you more clearance with the firewall.
Edit: never mind, your hitting air box. Maybe use a spacer to lift the air box up some..

I also used the hammer method, though I've seen write-ups on Pirate where people have cut the metal out of the upper portion of the wheel wells and welded in a new piece.

From your video it still looks like you're rubbing on the firewall. Whats your wheel backspacing?

I had no idea this was a 4Runner. Maybe your engine bay is different from us as far as where the airbox runs? Ideally I'd like to see a pic of the engine bay and where you are rubbing up front.

The reason I mentioned rub on the firewall is because it sounds like there is rubbing in your video, but that may just be the wheel itself spinning.

You may want to look at different wheels/backspacing. Right now you're at ~3.375.
I run 4.0 bs wheels w/ 1.25 spacers; 2.75 overall. They stick out a bit, but never had a problem with rubbing on the upper wheel well.

@cynicalrider aren't you on stock Tacoma wheels with some fatty spacers? Like 2" or 2.25"?

I'm on 1.25" not but was on 2 with 4.5" BS stock wheels.

Dude your bay has to be shorter than ours. I am seeing some differences, your box must come back faster than ours. Where you rub is where we rub the windshield res.

Above you see the res removed and the one big dent I needed to clear that similar spot you would rub at.

I gotta take some measurements tonight. This is really perplexing.

That looks pretty damn close to what my inner fenders looked like after I beat the hell out of them up front. So from my experience I wouldn't say it's out of the ordinary, assuming the 1st Gen Tacos really are nearly identical to the similar year 4Runners.

But again, I intentionally tubbed and hammered with cut down bumps to get some margin in case I run a true 35 later on (my Maxxs are more like 34.5). I'm also running a 1" BL for other reasons, but I did all of the tubbing and clearancing without it in the mix for worst case interference.

Are you on stock LCA bump stops? You are definitely rubbing so much worse than I was. I'm looking back at my build and I know I beat that corner you did in as well, but I just barely needed to. I do wonder how much your alignment is affecting it like you said though.

I'm on stock bumps. I still think backspacing is your issue. And from what you've explained, alignment.
Edit: did you say you're on true 35s or 315s? That'd be the only other factor I can think of, for which @Blackdawg can provide insight.

No clue on the cams. I'm not at home and won't be for a few days.

Do you have a body lift?

Thanks, Jason. That may be the solution. Some light searching online made mention of body lifts on runners for 35s.

I cut out and replated the fronts on both sides of mine, But with age and abuse the core support sags and makes every truck different, Tacoma or T4R.

Interesting. Maybe the inners are slightly different then.

How is your sealing holding up on your tubs, btw?

I kinda wish I would have just done this at the time. Mine look like shit after lots of BFH. Hard to tell with the bedliner, though.

I was also looking for a smoother place if the tire rubbed. I cut so much I had to move the battery to the bed.

Yep, mines going away soon, hopefully. Gonna do my dual setup while I'm at it.
