It's not a sure thing yet, but my sister let me in on a little secret yesterday afternoon about a plan my dad had.

She's driving a leased 2009 Corolla, base model. My dad's thinking heavily about trading it in and getting either a brand new Corolla, or the same year but better features.

I'm in two bands, and he knows that I have no way to get my gear around anymore due to my crash back in October.

His solution - Leasing me a brand new Taco.

This is very weird to me, my dad isn't the generous or giving type. But I'm super excited, and I'm going to go for a Magnetic Gray Sport model.

Wish me luck, I really hope this pulls through :).

Thanks :). Like I said this is very weird to me. My dad is usually very to himself and doesn't make big spending a common thing in this economy. I'm stoked though :).

Purchase a used one, In the end you'll probably be paying the same amount. You can find some pretty good deals right now. Plus with a lease you have ZERO equity in the vehicle. My boss leased a new 2005 BMW M3, by the time his lease was up 3 years later he drove 10k miles, and paid a total of 38k for a 50k car he had to give back, or end up paying another 36k to own. Let just say I gave my boss a verbal bitch slap. He doesn't lease cars no more.

I see your standpoint, I think.
My paps doesn't do anything but lease vehicles for some reason. Unless it's a really old used car, like my last one.
He'll probably end up buying it after the lease is up anyway.

If your dad owns any type of business than leasing is usually the best way to go as its a deductible expense.

exactly...but if its a personal vehicle...you are throwing your money away leasing a vehicle. Especially toyotas which have great resale value.
