Bilstein 6112

Looks like notch #2 would be about perfect for you. With my Eibach 650# springs I only lost 7/8" going down two notches (4th to 2nd).

 

I see you're from Alberta, wondering where you sourced the parts? I am thinking of the same set up, only on a third gen, and trying to avoid getting killed by duty and exchange rates!

 

I got them from a local dealership (Sherwood (Park) Toyota). They are very good to a local Toyota group and had pretty good prices all things considered.

According to the Bilstein PDF for the the 3rd gen 6112. Notches 6/5 are required for a 2" lift on the front. For DC 4x4 SB/LB setup.

 

I agree but if the turd..err, I mean 3rd gens, are anything like the 2nd gens you'll probably get more height out of whatever notch you choose.

 

Looks a lot like my setup. The ride is going to be pretty much exactly what you're looking for. It's a tiny bit firmer than stock and takes away the floaty feel. It rides awesome on and offroad.

 

I hear yea. I talked to Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road about that. There's some settling that happens after install. May see up to 2.5 after initial install; drive for a few weeks it'll settle.

 

Just an update with my situation....truck has been much better on the 2nd notch and it rides GREAT!! No more clunking or shaking when I go over bumps and the rear with Dakars, dx29 aal and b110 shocks isn't as stiff as some say it is. The new suspension (front and rear) just soaks everything right up....truck should have been like this from Toyota.

 

How important are aftermarket upper control arms? Do the stock UCAs work?

 

I have OEM UCAs right now with my 6112s set on the 4th notch, giving a little more than 2". Have JBA UCAs waiting to go in. Putting them in to get better alignment #s and a better ride.

 

Is it required... well depends. Like Doc I have mine set to the 4th notch. So far alignment numbers are good and it's held it since the lift went in. I haven't had any sort of contact with the arms and coils. So I'm probably not going to worry about it right now.
If you set everything below the 4th notch I would say you don't need aftermarket arms at all, 4 is a maybe and up to you. And on the 5th you'll end up wanting them

 

Awesome. Yea the stock front susp doesn't work very well if there isn't much down travel left because of too much lift. How much lift does the rear have now? With those shocks you want at least 3-4" lift. I'm looking at upgrading my rear shocks from the standard 5100's? IDK it rides great but a little more travel would be good? Post some pics of your truck as it sits now.

If you limit the lift your fine. I still have the stock UCA's. Right now on my setup (standard spring, 3rd notch 1/4" DR spacer) it's sitting at around 2" and rides great. After a little settling it just got better. I put them in a year ago.

 

Finished the lift today. 6112/5125 with AAL

 

What AAL? Setting on the coilovers? (I assume 5th notch?) Total numbers? (Overall lift before/after if possible?) Looks great man!

2nd Gen Tacoma Bilstein 6112 set at 5th (highest notch). 3rd gen 6112 has 6 notches (theoretically lifts higher)
Right at 2.5" lift

Rears:
Bilstein 5125
Icon Add-a-leaf (AAL)
1.5ish inch lift

16x8 ET0 (4.5" backspace) with 265/75/16. Will be going 285/75/16 sometime

Ground to fender:
DF: 37.25
DR: 38.5
PF: 37.5
PR: 39

 

According to the lift charts it looks like the second GEN 6112 at the highest notch will lift higher than the third GEN

This had to be done as my freakin front mudflaps would scrap going over a speed bump, couldn't take people turning every time to see what the hell that sound was. Ended up removing mudflaps and sidestep bar. Then plastidipped all Chrome.

I got 2.5" on 4th notch...I suppose it varies a little truck to truck.

 

This was my first real test on the trail with my 6112/5160 setup. Could not be more pleased!!! Got it up to 60mph on some strait aways and felt in total control The Whole time. The faster I went the better the ride!!
