What one thing would you change about your Tacoma?

Shorten the wheelbase/1 piece driveshaft. Stop the nonsense with pedestrian safety, reinforce my front end, deer are a bitch and I rarely hit peds. Trigger on steering wheel for brights. No complaints but just stuff that would make it better. There's always room for improvement I guess.

 

Diesel or more low end torque.

yeah $13,500 isn't exactly the same price point. New for new though they are. Seems like mid size trucks skyrocketed in prices.

I don't know anything about the Hilux. The only thing I am saying is it should be an option. If the ZR2 would have been out and I could have found a diesel I would have taken a hard look.

 

Well, since you said please. I'll answer your question with a few questions. Why? What for? Is diesel your only local option for fuel? Is diesel your only option for purchase? What's wrong with you? You live in the US bro. Gasoline is everywhere. Why would you knowingly go out of your way to commit yourself to a fuel that requires a turbo? A massive failure point for any engine. A massive hassle for zero gains in real world applications except jumping on the diesel trend bandwagon. And you cant just swap out a diesel with a gasoline engine in the US. Hardware that accompanies a Diesel engine for Ecu to monitor and adjust emissions parameters are also hella failure prone and expensive. Theres a few handfuls more sensors that are attached to this idea. If you're one of those people who claims to only keep a vehicle for 2/3 years, and then move on to something else, that works in your favor because you don't have to deal with the eventual costly headache. But thankfully toyota ignores you people, and a diesel option for this US legend isn't gonna happen. And if you're one of those people who claim to keep our Toyota's forever, like myself, then a diesel would be a poor decision.

 

Thankfully, you don't have that as your only toyota pickup option.

 

Bottom line is diesels just don't sell at a high enough level in the US to be worth it. Plus they tend to cost significantly more as an option, making them prohibitive to the consumer. It's a double negative.

A smaller turbo charged engine, as the base engine, would be much better.

Something similar to what almost every major manufacturer offers. Toyota is one of the few that hasn't seemed to move onto the small turbo engine trend.

 

You're playin yourself if you think they are doing that for any reason other than to try to hit emissions standards.

 

I don't care what the reasoning is. More power and better gas mileage from a smaller turbo engine (over a larger NA one) is a win/win. If it also helps with emissions, then awesome.
