I like to keep all my stuff in pristine condition. Truck is clean, car is clean, even the lemon racer I try to keep clean. Toolbox is cleaned everyday before I go home along with all sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers are wiped down and put away in their respective spots. Just because some people don't give a fuck about their property doesn't mean I don't. If you take care of something it will serve you for many years to come. Especially a Toyota product.

Come to think of it, I can think of many "scum" worse that people who retaliate but I get where you're going.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you. They are more saying that retaliating on a situation isn't always the proper approach and can lead to worse outcomes.

If people owned up to what they did and offer to pay for damages the. It wouldn't come to retaliation. It's human nature. If somebody did ding my truck and actually owned up to it and offer to pay for damages that's one thing. But the people that have the fuck your shit attitude are the ones that deserve the shit beaten out of them.

    My thoughts exactly.

People driving through living rooms...paintball target practice on a truck...man, you come up with some heck of analogieso_O

I do think people are saying it is not a big deal. Of course it is upsetting if somebody bangs their door against your vehicle and dings it.

What some of us mean, I think, is that in the large scheme of things it is not worth losing one's temper over it, or getting excessively angry to the point of wanting retaliation when it happens.

Maybe it comes with age...I don't know...but it is not worth wasting so much energy on things like that man. BTW...I still care for my truck 18 years later just as I did when it was new. It has scratches and dings...some from wheeling...some from idiots at parking lots. Life goes on.

So I'm of the mind that I'll do what I can to keep my truck looking nice, but I'm not about to stomp someone out if something happens. Just a couple of weeks ago I got a leak in my tire fixed and the place put a pretty nice gouge in the edge of my wheel. I didn't make a big deal about it, I'll touch it up and move on with my life.

Exactly same thing I do , all my tools are cleaned , wiped down and lightly oiled and put back away in my box . I got micrometers that are 22 years old that still look new because I take care of my stuff

I agree with ya, but I dont think most people are like this. If they live their life this way, karma will come back around one way or another with them.

I bought mine used with a nice ding already in it, passenger side so I mostly forget its there. I've thought about having it pulled to help future resale value, any thoughts on this?

100% agree,I was the 1 guy in the shop that did this, I paid top dollar for Snap-On and I kept my stuff in excellent shape. Nothing wrong with taking care of your tools or truck or whatever. Haters are going to hate but when it happens to them they get super pissed. I worked hard for everything i own and i take great care of it. When its trade in time my truck will be worth thousands more than most because it isnt all dinged and scratched up. Besides its my shit and if i want it looking good thats nobodys but my business. Untill they start paying for my truck it's mine and I'll do whatever the he'll I want with it.Maybe if there were more people that actually gave a shit about their and other people's property it wouldn't be an issue!

I dont call at least 1,000 bucks a door ding, i didnt even mention those, maybe i take to much pride in my stuff, but i see it like this, if i work hard and pay for something and take care of it i dont want somebody else destroying it, barring an accident people just dont give a shit in general about there stuff or anybody elses, they are to busy getting fom point a to point b thats why there shit is all beat up, like somebody said earlier just take a look at some vehicles around you, ive seen some that made me cringe, you knew exactly why there was no paint on all there door edges,

Another thing I look for a vehicles that are damaged or are made out of other vehicles like mismatched body panels and doors. These people probably don't have insurance.

I always get a kick out of those.....but they took the time to go find a new door? Maybe they thought it was cheaper to buy a new door than pay the deductible

Depends on how old they are. If I had a 10+ year old car that was only worth 2k with a full tank of gas I would only carry liability on it. If something got messed up that I could easily swap with a junk yard part I would do it. Paint match? On a $2,000 car? Not a chance in hell.

Also I don't think anyone is saying it is bad to take care of your stuff, nor is anyone saying that people that door cars shouldn't have to pay for it. But the way the world is and the way the world ought to be are two different things. To live a low stress life you need to adapt to the former is all people are saying. If a low stress life isn't for you, more power to you.

I was in a parking lot sitting in the truck one day and this lady pulls in and misjudges when she starts in a parking place, she knocked the crap out of that car then proceeds to go towards the back to park so if the people come out and noticed they couldnt pin it on them. I took out a piece of paper and wrote down the cars tag number and put my phone number on it and a message on what happened and left it on the car that got hit. This wasnt a tap it was a knock the shit out of it moment, im like i dont believe what i just seen, the woman that hit it had no intention of informing the owner.

This is the proper way to deal with it. The financial implication is more likely to get their attention than smashing up their car.

Whoa, easy now. I'm gonna agree with you that retaliation is not a remedy. And just to clarify here, since I assume that I'm the "hardass" staring down the mother, that I did handle that and all other like situations reasonably and even amicably. My story was, just like many others in this thread, simply meant to relay my irritation at the lack of respect shown by the young man, and the apparent lack of caring shown by the mother.

I work hard to maintain my 20 year old Toyota that I happened to be driving that day, that's why its 20 years old and still on the road. I know its not a sports car, or even very valuable to anyone other than myself. But this general attitude that prevails around us of "my things/space/needs/issues/etc. are more important than all others" is something that is obscene.
