don't have a 5.56 9' upper yet its in the works but right now most of my funds are going towards the truck.

just have the 9.5 BCM 300blk currently on my SBR.

I've shot a pistol gas 8" 5.56 SBR. Not really a fan to be honest. Shortest I would go is 10.3".

Biggest thing I didn't like was the recoil impulse. That and the ballistic loss with a barrel that short with 5.56.

My 11.5" shoots like a 16" middy. It's buttery smooth.

Anyone have some recommendation for a complete 10.5 or 11.5 pistol upper in 5.56? My lower is almost complete so im starting to look for my upper, this is more of a budget build and not going to crazy on money with it. Looking for an upper around the 350ish range with some wiggle room. Thanks guys

You want budget? I'll give you budget:
    http://www.hardenedarms.com/ecProduct_214_70

I've had really good experiences with these guys (the company, not this upper specifically). I have 3 of their uppers in different lengths and calibers and haven't had any problems. Once I received a bent charging handle, but a phone call and they sent me a new one the next day. Didn't even ask for pictures. I'd consider this extremely budget friendly as opposed to a high dollar precision build. Worth every penny. If you look at their site, they have "quick ship" items that are on the shelf and usually ship in a couple days. Other stuff has to built and test fired so it takes a bit longer but still worth the wait.

Shit I was about to say Ozark Ordnance I thought had prices like that but I just looked it up and I guess they either got backlogged too long or were just a shitty company and folded, they had great prices on some bulk FMJ 125, 135 gr. 300AAC. I think they made subs too

Anyone have tips for ensuring the gas block is centered over the gas port in the barrel? I can't think of any good way to do it other than just eyeballing it. I know how far the gas block needs to be from the shoulder and I have the correct feeler gauge but I'm not sure how best to align things around the barrel.

Better to ask what I have not done.
Does your barrel have dimples at the bottom for your gas block studs to screw into?

Barrel has no dimples and I didn't want to deal with dimpling it myself so I got a clamp on gas block.

Get a sharpie and something straight. Place along barrel and put a dot forward and aft of the gas hole port where the gas block wont block it (using the straight edge to keep things in line). On the gas block put a dot on the front and back inline with the hole in the gas block. Slide gas block on and line up your dots and the gas port and gas block should line up just fine.

Can anyone tell me the maker of this barrel? I see no other codes on the barrel. It's a 20 inch btw.

Got it at the gun show over the weekend, I guess I could get in contact with the seller. It's a shop out of Ohio. 1-9 isn't a typical twist rate for the military is it?
