Towing with aftermarket bumper

I posted up in the Armor section but I thought I'd post up here too. Does anyone have any experience with towing after installing an aftermarket bumper? I'd like to get a steel bumper but I don't want to lose my towning capacity. While most come with an integrated hitch none are rated. They look beefy and strong enough but I thought I'd reach out and see if anyone had any actual experience with towing after swapping bumpers.

 

Can't you get one that retains the stock hitch?

 

As a travel trailer seeker the numbers I have been so obsessed with in towing capacity lead me to believe your towing capacity will be reduced by the weight of the new "beefy and strong" (translation heavier) bumper. May be a little or may be a lot. The cargo capacity for your truck will diminish a bit and therefore the cargo carrying capacity for your trailer will go down in order to stay within the GCWR of your truck and trailer combined. Just my two pennies.

 

Hard to find one that has the features I want while still using the stock hitch

 

The weight of the bumper won't be more than ~150lbs so I'm not too worried about that. More that the bumper can handle the weight of wheat I pull

 

I wouldn't worry about it.

One from one of our quality vendors should easily hold more than the truck is rated to handle.

If you are concerned, speak directly with the vendor prior to making a purchase.

I have the BodyArmor bumper and it doesn't seem to make a difference .I do have the TSB springs with a 2" AAL and Bilstein 5125s also . My truck did not have a tow package when I bought it new . I added the hitch and a Hayden HP trans cooler .
