    I get your point.
I have to disagree with something though. The armed services isn't supposed to turn someone who isn't honorable, mature, responsible, honest or courageous into something they aren't. Through life experiences those things come, not service in the armed forces.
Have you, or anyone else, ever participated on sending kids into the woods looking for 'snipes'..? That's hazing. Happens all the time. Not that I condone it or not, just pointing something out.

As fas as gay's in the military, I don't care. Personally, I prefer not to have sexual orientation an issue, I don't want to know what their orientation is nor do I care. If a service member is gay, who cares. I never belived that the topic of sex should occur in a workplace, it's always been a detractor and unprofessional.

And is there something wrong with "being a Boy Scout"?? Being both an actual Boy Scout and a member of the military- I don't see how they have to be mutually exclusive. You seem to LIKE it that way- but that's because it's more fun/amusing for you. That doesn't make it right- and again just because it -is or was- one way- Doesn't mean it's right.

And resisting the change because it -is or was- that way isn't right either.

If they are willing to fight and die for our country, then you'd be a jackass to refuse them. Who cares what turns them on? If you show no interest, they'll leave you alone.

You act like they are some animals incapable of not controlling themselves. Ironically, you cat call every hot chick that walks past you.

Did you ever see the college study that showed homophobes were more turned on by gay porn than accepting people? Yep, the put little measuring devices around their junk and showed gay porn. The homophobes sure enough were more likely to rise to the occasion. Interesting study indeed...

This does seem to be true... I really wish it weren't the case. For the most part the homophobia seems to be coming from the junior enlisted. Which is sad, and I don't want to say it, but in general it does seem that officers are more "enlightened." The hard thing is that whether or not gays make it in the military really depends on the enlisted community. I don't understand why but when they look at a soldier/airmen/sailor/marine they don't see that a soldier/sailor/airmen/marine... they see gay or hetero.... black or white etc. Whereas, I judge every sailor on their achievements, abilities, and attitudes not their race, sex, sexual orientation, or creed.

The kind of homophobic attitude that has been made prevalent in this thread is sad and pathetic. To Say that gays would get beat up, while a very true possibility, is rediculous... it does not have to be that way. The enlisted are the backbone/body/everything in the military. They should not stand idly by and tolerate or promote this sort of degrading behavior. I just wish those juvenile ignorant ones would quickly grow up (or get out) and those silent ones around them would man up and defend their fellow soldier/marine/airmen/sailor regardless of sexual orientation.

By allowing that kind of violence against their brothers, these men degrade the honor of our forefathers, our service, and our nation.

I don't think its about him being gay or straight. I think its about different.

Say you have a platoon of "regular" (regular as in, you've know these people for a while) guys. Then, all of a sudden, someone different is thrown in their. Don't you think they'll get played with just a little bit? Surely he'll get accepted over time, but that time might be a while.

I'm not against gays in the military. Nor do I openly look around for one to join me. If it happens, so be it. He's gonna get fucked with just as much as the next "new guy" that joins up.

and that is fine... I'm talkin about the guys who say that "hes gonna get f'ed up" a little razin is good it builds camaraderie, but outright hazing and violence? It sickens me to think of the military doing this to our fellow brothers and whats worse is that people on here try to justify it as the normal and tradition.

OK you are ignorant, whats next you dont want blacks or hispanics, people who are gay have no more control over who they are than people of color do, they are born that way, if you are secure in your own sexuality it should not matter what the guy next to you thinks. Also teabagging really are sure those guys are not gay?:D

    2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.

    3. uninformed; unaware.

    4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

I was stating the word in this meaning as i Highlighted... As long as i dont know, then that is fine with me. "ignorance" is what i believe in this situation. Ya i dont know if that guy doing "Gay" stuff in my squad is gay or not, and i dont want to know...cause when i do, our squad will not be the same and will be very awkward around him.

I totally agree with the don't ask don't tell policy. May 5% of men in the military don't care, but I do not want to know if the guy in the bunk next to me is gay or not. I have a couple gay friends and they know I do not agree with there life style. I just think it will cause to much commotion if everyone knows your gay. And why do we need to know your gay?......... Shut up and serve your country proud, but quite.

This is an interesting debate that I have been following. Just thought I would add that General Petraeus is testifying on Capital Hill this morning and he just said, "the time has come" to repeal DADT.

The man is a good General, He has alot of things on his plate, from my veiw, I do not agree with what he is doing on that subject, I may not be giving him the upper hand on this cause i am basing my ideas on operational decisions he made durring the Invasion of Afghanastan. I've read about him, and He is to political for a General....but then again you have to be in these days....What happen to generals like Patton or Stormin Norman.

Easily solved, prosecute their ass to the max, just as we would if they were civilians. Why do people think when they put on a uniform they are suddenly above the law. I am fine with drumming all of the racist homophobic bigots out of the service they have hiding in our armed forces too long now IMO.

That's just it. What enhancement would be brought to a fighting force knowing that one person or another is gay or not? Makes no sense to me...

Prosecuting will only do so much. No matter will you go, "racist homophobic bigots" will be everywhere...its called human nature, people will always look at someone different, good or bad, based on the color of there skin/sexual preferance/religion. its just the reality of things in the real world.

Really a learned thing, have you ever even talked to a gay person? I have some gay friends and they will tell you its not a matter of choice, that they were born that way. Open your mind you might learn something about people who are different than you. IMO this is a big part of why the "ugly american" stereotype has flourished, many people from other countries only contact with Americans is through our armed forces. If you treat Americans who are different like this I can only imagine how you treat people of different colors who speak strange languages.

There is hope for you yet @ your age I was every bit as ignorant of the world around me, I moved to a larger city with a very diverse population and realized people are people and there are alot better reasons to hate someone than their skin color, religion, or sexual orientation.
