I plan on mounting my go pro to record or take a time lapse of the diff as I take a long drive. I have seepage stains but it never seems "wet". I'm wondering if it only happens while in use.

Where do you guys think the best place to mount it would be to give me the best chance of seeing anything?

This might turn up nothing. I'd assume is such a slow leak that I might not be able to see anything even over the course of a 3 hour drive.

    Update:
I brought the truck back to my dealership today, and dealt directly with the customer service manager. I showed him photos of the leak/stain, and showed him Toyota's sample images and verbiage in their repair documents. He agreed that it needed to be repaired and immediately talked with the shop foreman. We also discussed the second recall regarding the crank position sensor that Toyota is not yet prepared to fix. As a result, he offered to put me into a Rav4 or Camry until both recalls are complete. After explaining to him that a vehicle that much smaller than a Tacoma wouldn't work for my planned 3000 mile family road trip, he pulled some strings and secured a Ford Explorer for me instead. In the past, I've had nothing but terrible experiences with this dealer. However, to my surprise, I'm happy with the way things were handled today. Gonna miss the Taco, but at least I'm not in a Camry for the foreseeable future.

It helps big time when you show them you know what they know but don't want you to know.

Yesterday I called my dealership to ask them if the gasket came in yet. They told me that the whole United States is out of those rear differential gasket and that it is coming in overseas and that I could expect the gasket to come in mid-july or Late July. This was coming directly from the GM from parts.

I'm scheduled for the rear diff recall on July 6. As been confirmed numerous times, dealership stated that if all looks good, they will torque and send me on my way. However, if not they will have the parts in no more than two days and all is good. By the way, I have a seepage stain so expecting to have to get the corolla rental....hopefully no more than two days...

Demand a 4Runner. I was in a Corolla for two days and it was hell. There's some rule based on what they took from you that you earn a truck (or truck-ish) platform.

They had to get mine from a different Enterprise. It has Oklahoma plates and is 1000 miles overdue for an oil change...

    ...but it ain't a Corolla.

You shouldn't see anything in a 3 hr drive. Probably wouldn't see anything in a 3 WEEK drive with just a weepy seal. If it were a fluid that evaporated, you would never even know it leaked. Have you wiped and cleaned the area where it leaked? If so, how long did it take to return? Good luck though!

That's the same thing they told me they told me that they have the part in the gasket then come the following day they told me that they did not have the part that it would be a month before I receive my truck back. Just make sure you don't want to be like everyone else including myself waiting for your truck. I would even go a little bit beyond and even tell them to show you the part before you hand them the keys.

Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. I'm sure it'll feel like getting in a brand new truck again.
