Well shit maybe it wasn't a scam lol. I think they send you a fake email from paypal saying transfer went though or something. Dude was weird on text and wouldn't answer calls so something was up

if the scammers send you check and you cash it, but don't send them anything like they always say send $300, are not they out of the money?

No, because the check is going to eventually come back bad and your bank is going to deduct the entire amount from your account. So if you have $1000 in your account, and they send you a check for $500. Then you give them $300, you now have $1200 in your account. Then the check comes back bad, bank deducts $500, and you're left with $700 in your account. And the scammers made $300.

    Edit:
But I haven't used one of those check cashing places. If they just charge a fee and don't collect your information, then I guess you'd come out ahead. But I'm sure they have a system to prevent this.

What about people who flag your ad to "save" it for themselves? :annoyed: I just had this happen to me this morning!

It takes a lot more than 1 flag to remove an ad. Craigslist won't tell what that number is though.

The interesting thing is that my ad completely complies to the TOU (Terms of Use). So I am just scratching my head. :help:

Maybe try changing the title. I had an ad auto-flagged by CL multiple times, and I changed the title. No more auto flag. The title wasn't anything crazy either.

There are ways to generate multiple flags on an ad.

The biggest Craigslist scams can be found in the W4M section... If you don't know what I mean, just go take a peek.

Nasty tramps who claim to be Christian, family oriented, drug and disease free outstanding citizens who have just had "bad luck" in their lives and are looking for "Mr. Right" because her former boyfriend/husband was an abusive, alcoholic deadbeat who spent all of her money and ruined her credit.

Nobody above the mental age of 8 would believe any of their lies. They make up these stories as if to convince themselves. Such disgusting people.

If you ever need an hour or two of good entertainment, just go see what I mean.

Not a scam, but a feat of strength:

My dad often posts old stuff for free on CL just to get rid of it. Garage sale type stuff that he just wants gone, and doesn't care to make a buck on. A couple weeks ago, I was helping him move a new TV into the guest room. The TV in his guest room was an old tube TV. To put in the new one, old one had to come out. I don't know what was thing was made of, but weighed in at probably 150 pounds. I'm a pretty strong guy, and even my dad and I couldn't manage it together. It was just too heavy, and even more awkward to move down a flight of stairs. We get it to the stairs and my dad goes "screw this." He posts it on CL for free and says in the ad "you must pick it up and remove it from the house."

Little blonde girl comes by, wants the TV. Her big Samoan boyfriend comes in...picks it up and totes it down on his own. Pops was completely dumbfounded by this guy's strength.

I have had good and bad experiences on CL. Every time I have posted a vehicle for sale, I have received calls from a bogus company saying they have customers interested in buying my vehicle and will sell it for a small fee.

My brother was trying to sell his truck one time, and got a call from someone in another state saying he would send a check for the full purchase price plus the cost of shipping the vehicle. After warning him that it was a scam, he still decided to try it. He received two cashier's checks instead of one, both of them for the same amount. He thought that was strange, and finally decided to listen to me. He went to his bank and asked if they could verify funds for the checks, which of course they couldn't. He called and left a voicemail explaining this to the guy, and never heard from him again.

One time I had a pretty good experience, though. I was stationed in Hawaii, but I was still using the small bank in Oklahoma that I had always used. Because of this, I had no way to get a large amount of cash at once. I found a great deal on a Ford Explorer on CL and called the guy and explained my situation. We were both in the Army, so I guess that made him a little more trusting of me. I assume that he thought if I screwed him over, he could get ahold of my command and let them handle it. Anyway, after showing him that I had enough money in my bank account to cover it, he let me write a personal check for it (in person, face to face). After writing him the check for the full asking price, he came back and handed me $300 cash. I hadn't haggled with him due to the circumstances. Everything went through fine on both ends.

Tell me about it. I always get the ones that they are in the navy and they are somewhere in the middle of the ocean and they need 6 months to be back ....
my favorite one was this couple, their son died in a car crash. And the car looked exactly like my BMW and they want to buy it in his memory.

I've had those numbers contacting me on various items that I have for sale. I just respond to them with payment will go through PayPal. And they reply to me with I can only afford a check.

Found these on craigslist today. The wording in the posts are just awesome

"The car that I'm selling is a very nice one! The automobile has 92k mileage, was recently given a fine detail. The automobile has standard service with the car dealer. The car has some marks on both bumpers which I got from the automobile parking space. Generally, the car is in great shape and runs good. I simply made a decision to invest in a bigger one, which better meets my lifestyle. Clean carfax, clean title."

"My pickup truck is really in good condition. It includes cutting edge vehicle tires. It performs and also drives fantastically. It needs absolutely no maintenance or service of any type. It's only ever had one specific user!"
