We keep coming back to the negative side of this post by attacking one anothers personal choice. This ain't my post but maybe it's time to take this discussion to a different level.

Lets say they do implement the policy. In our current sate of DADT, if the individual did divulge his/her sexual preference they were given a discharge.

Now lets say the policy is put in place. Maybe then the men/women who would prefer not to associate/work with/ be part of their team, be allowed to come forward to their commander and tell them their preference be allowed the same discharge as the DADT service members.
How many young men, women, minorities, might say "I want out of the military. I don't wish to work with nor associate with individuals of this persuasion!" What would happen if a large mass did this?
Of course our fine members of congress are not going to give these service men and women this opportunity to walk away. The numbers could be shocking. Probably not, but certainly possible. Yes, some might use it as an excuse to get out too.

Again, I work on the outside of the military. But in the real world you are frequently required to work next to someone. You don't have to like them but you must still perform jobs and work with any number of individuals you don't associate with outside work. You can chose to leave for other jobs if you really feel you can't accept working with them.
This is not the case in the military. When communication doesn't happen it can lead to all sorts of errors. In the military it gets even more complicated.

Education is the key, not punishment.

Where does it say joining the service is supposed to be "fun", I thought my tax dollars were being spent to defend this country, not bankroll a bunch of immature fraternity pranks just my 2 cents.

No where... However, having served in the Marines and in Iraq, I can tell you that every bit of humor helps ease the reality of being in combat. Not to be a dick, but unless you've been there ___________ .

I work in Healthcare where we have life & death situations every day, I know its different but I do understand the need for humor/tension breakers.

What I have a problem with is saying we cant have gays because if we did we couldnt teabag each other cause what if the guy was gay, as if teabagging another guy was normal if he were straight. The comment was made it would hurt morale if we couldnt joke about farts smelling like vasoline & d*ck, I cant make jokes like that in my job the first time it happened there would be a hell of a problem.

No, all of us are not in the service but we do pay taxes which pay for your training and salaries so yes I do feel that gives me a right to have an opinion.

When you put on that uniform you represent this country and all who call it home so please try not to paint us all as intolerant and cruel because alot of Americans can accept people who are different for who they are not the label society has put on them.

I should note that MANY people in the federal government are prior military... Not that this forms my opinion on this at all... Just some food for thought.

I would think that the gays and their hot-pink camo would definitely compromise your ability to be 'stealthy'

this is a really ignorant statement... its not a choice, if thats the case do you choose to be hetero? implying that you could go either way?

Personally, I was born hetero and being gay is not an option due to my internal feelings... not my choice.

That is an opinion. That argument would also require heterosexuality to be a choice. Did you choose to be straight? I didn't, I just am.

Scientific research suggests it is not a choice.

    1. Not everyone in the military misrepresents America (if you call it misrepresentation; as that is a relative term). Those people are known as the "bottom 2%". Rest assured that at least Marines, from my experience, are told during liberty formations to act right - or else; especially overseas when we are told that we are all "American Ambassadors to this country".

    2. I agree that making those comments would be detrimental to your own job - same as if I made those in my office. But, one could argue that it's no different than calling a troop a "pussy", because he is hiding in his fighting hole, too scared to get out of it and charge the enemy with the rest of the team. Many times, I've asked teammates if they needed to change their panties or tampons before going on a mission because they weren't manning up. And the ones that pussed out - we'd leave tampons in their rack.

    3. Military members ALSO pay taxes, thus they too have a right to an opinion as well... I serve the U.S. in a different capacity now and I still pay taxes. As a matter of fact, when I served in Iraq, I was part of a small group of Americans that STILL had to pay taxes there (unlike contractors and military).

    4. I commend your work in healthcare... I hate dealing with blood and guts - stains your fingers.
