Installed yesterday, very easy and fast, also left it under the Qi pad. I live in a flat city so I'll really see the potential when I head up to Colorado in the next few months.

 

Yeah, but it works pretty good on 610, BW8 & Grand Parkway over passes too!

 

I don't know why I haven't order it yet. How long is the wait time to get this? I am heading to FJ Summit in a few weeks and would be great way to test it out.

 

We have made some great strides over the past couple of weeks to increase capacity and catch up.

We are now back to approx 5-7 business day lead time for new orders, with that likely to improve even more in the coming weeks. Website will be updated shortly, but orders placed today could expect to be shipped next week.

Hi all, new here and new 2017 V6 auto Taco owner as of 2 days ago.

In my research I saw quite a bit about the unhappiness of the transmission, and have since started to notice it in my driving.

So that I don't have to read 72 pages of this thread, is this product working well? Have those of you that installed it in May been happy?

If so, this will be my first mod

I installed mine a week or so ago. It doesn't transform your truck into the ultimate driving machine but it does help with all the up down up down shifting, particularly in town or in the mountains.

Mine has grown on me. I don't use it all the time but its nice to have another arrow in the quiver.

 

Wonder if they make those for the 4 cylinder Tacoma's??

Just came back from my initial tow use of the SSPro pulling a 1750 lb pop-up camper from a base elevation of 5860 ft over a peak elevation at Berthoud Pass of 11307 ft back to a mountain base elevation of 8700 ft. I purchased the SSPro specifically for towing in the S mode. Typically I get a combined mpg of 24 (city, local street, highway) using D mode. This trip I used only the S mode with the SSPro and averaged 19.5 mpg. The truck had no issues shifting or pulling the trailer on the steep grade where tight hair-pin curves had speeds posted at 20mph and straight-away speeds were 45mph to 65mph. The SSPro made the truck shifting experience the way you would expect it should be! I am completely happy with the SSPro performance. Great job dcz!

 

Can you put your HUD screen back to the other views like digital speed? Also, does hitting ETC change anything when this device is enabled?

 

You can get rid of gear shift notifications under dash settings.

 

Yes. Look in your owners manual. You can turn it off. I did mine with the onscreen display options setup.

 

What about ETC? Changes nothing?

 

ETC can still be used if desired although not necessary. the SSP does not change any of that OEM functionality. The ShiftSense is intended to take the place of needing ETC, while providing shifts which are more appropriately placed.

If you use ETC and SSP in combination you will notice that the ETC shiftmap may start to overlap the SSP shiftmap in some throttle positions. So the truck may hold out on making some upshifts even after the SSP commands the S+ shift. Or the truck may make some extra downshifts which are not necessarily commanded by SSP. In our testing, we noticed that ETC still had some pretty significant gear-hunting which could be avoided by using SSP alone.

The ETC function also adjusts the throttle-mapping a bit. This will continue to work the same with or without SSP engaged. My opinion had always been that ETC throttle map is a bit overly-sensitive and harsh, especially in the lower speeds, although many drivers do like that response for certain driving scenarios.

There is alot of personal preference involved, but the SSP will basically get you the shifting performance (similar ETC) while maintaining the smooth non-ETC throttle map so everything should 'feel' better matched and smoother while at the same time eliminating most of the unnecessary gear-hunting.

 

I just drove my truck in S mode using the Shift Sense Pro and ECT power on. It basically follows the shift map of the SSP and increases the throttle sensitivity. So it just feels more peppy. If you use the ECT power in drive it uses the factory shift map and increases throttle sensitivity. So, it's kinda between both worlds. You basically have 4 shift modes! I have towed just using the SSP and it was fine. I haven't spent much time comparing these two modes. I've been thinking about doing the anytime ECT mod shown on TW.

This has nothing to do with the actual product, but does anybody notice the truck shifts a bit harder (not as smooth) in Sequential Mode?
The SS Pro is great and changes the shift points exactly where I want them, but the actual shifts are not as smooth because it's in S-Mode.
I've put 1,000 miles on the SS Pro and I can really notice/feel the vehicle shifting. When i shift into D it's butter-smooth and i cannot notice/feel transitions between gears (still dont like the shift mapping tho).

I would imagine most vehicles don't shift as smooth in their manual-sequential mode so nothing against the Tacoma or SS Pro. I just dont want it to have long term negative effects.
