A good friend of mine needs to upgrade from his 2005 DCSB to a bigger truck (just opened a brewery and needs to be able to fit pallets inn the back). I need a 4wd vehicle for my next job, so I'm looking to buy his tacoma. Its a 2005 DCSB TRD 4x4 with 65,000 miles. It has a good amount of mods, of which I can only remember a few:
    6" fabtech lift
    All Pro Bumper w/winch
    33" tires on moto metal
Pioneer dual din touch screen with navi

This would be my first vehicle of this size coming from a Prelude and a M3 (though I'm no stranger to large vehicles, I use to work for the state parks). I've driven the truck numerous times and it seems to ride just fine, but what should I look for? What do you guys think a reasonable asking price is? 16000-17000?

Here are 2 crappy cell phone pictures

I know here in Washington you can't touch an 05 up Tacoma 4x4 for less than 20k and that's stock! . I've seen acouple with over 100k on them for 18 or 19k. So I guess it does matter where you live!

Just for kicks I stopped at a dealership in Dallas to see what they would give me for my 05 on trade in. 95k miles pre-runner V6 DC LB and in good shape-stock. They offered me 12,500. Kind of low I think.

Not real sure of the truck value, but I would put very little if any value on accessories...expecially a lift. If you put value on cosmetic stuff/bolt ons, don't give more than 40-50% of there cost. When I see major mods to a vehicle, altering the entire suspension system or screwing with something in the drivetrain, it is worth less to me. I would rather do the mod myself to ensure it is done properly and not going to cause me major issues in the long run.

If you can get it for 16000-17000 it sounds like an absolute steal! I'd expect to pay around 23000 for a truck like that in my area

I just paid 13.5 for an '05 access cab 4wd sport with 59k. Completely stock except for 265 70 r17 BFG ATs. It has a few minor cosmetic blemishes and a chirpy throwout bearing (which I am in the process of battling the dealership over!) but I think I got a hell of a deal. It also came with the 6yr 75k extended warranty. I love my truck.

thanks for the responses. I think 16500 to start negotiations seems fair, with the likely hood of going to 17500. I'm known they guy for over 10 years but its still doesn't mean he isn't going to try and get as much out of me as possible.

He has all receipts from the modifications and I know it's never been seriously off roaded (a few hunting trips here and there, but in FL the worst you're going to get in is some mud).

On a side note I'm excited about joining the Tacoma community and hope to learn as much as I can from you guys. I loved the honda community when I had my prelude, but couldn't have been more annoyed by the stuck up pricks in the BMW community. They are one of the reasons I completely stopped modding my M3 (well that and the ridiculous prices for everything BMW...$1000 for an axel back exhaust that just makes it sound neat, I dont think so)

What did you get for it in trade if you don't mind me asking? Also was it modded?

My situation was alittle odd since I was in neg equity but they gave me alittle over 16k for truck. All that was on it was 5100s at 2.5" with an AAL. The dealer wanted as much "stock" equipment on it as possible since upgrades don't really help them sell the vehicle to everyday people.

    We are not worthy...Well done!

The 16,500 seems about a right start. I agree that the mods drop the #'s.
