And I don't mean to preach. Looks like there were a lot of people around that helped and it really turned out about as good as possible.

Couldn't agree more. Everyone was willing to help. I'm still thanking whatever/whoever/whomever is out there looking out for me. Could have been ALOT worse. I definitely learned alot.

Oh, I know off-roading is fun, but like I stated, I won't use my truck for it. I'll use someone else's truck for it . Lmao

If your with the right people it makes it that much easier. But I learned the hard way (before this incident) you gotta pay to play.

I would go buy a case of the cheapest oil possible and change the oil every 100 miles or so till I was confident it had gotten all the water out. Then I would go on with life. When the normal oil change came do I would save some old oil and send a sample to Blackstone or a Canadian oil testing lab and see what they have to say. If you caused any internal damage the readings will indicate a high level of metal content and that will be a good indicator if you need to dump it or if its wearing great and everything is A ok.

The irony is that had you just drove it into a lake, then it would be totaled and you would have 1 path - file an insurance claim, get paid, and then move on with life.

But instead it was just SOME water, and now there are a million ways to go.

    LOL

I'll echo everyone else. Change all fluids. Then frequently change oil until it doesn't discolor any more. Then either trade it in, or continue to drive. Trade-in will be about the same as selling PP to someone and informing them of the sinkage.
These trucks are pretty tough. There is a "junk yard" here and the guy specializes in tacomas/toyotas. I've seen him bring some pretty rough looking trucks back to life. Hell, he probably has an engine for you if you're that worried, just kind of far from Canada.

I'm guessing you don't have a snorkel right?

Instead of buying a new engine could consider just a rebuild?
I'd say change all fluids and maybe take apart at least the top end and see what it looks like

    Still pretty happy with this.

    IMG_3097.jpg

All in all the engine sounded really good afterwards. I thought electrical was going to be the down fall. A new ecu isn't too much in the grand scheme of things though. I would run it for a couple months, see how shit works out and go from there.

Was one hell of an adventure and we were happy to help ya out man. Glad you made it safe and sound.

This is why I wouldn't do any water crossing without walking the water first. Espeically with all the rain we've been getting dude. Shits fuckin deep.

Was canoeing in cameron lake last weekend and it was deep as fuck in the same spots that are usually shallow

You should keep it. You'll need it on the next trip. Just don't go in the " NO GO" hole. lol

Not trying to be a dick but 'kinda' tells me he was off trail.

Where I'm located that's frowned upon by the offroad community because the damage caused by people going off trail is ammo for groups like the Sierra Club to lobby to restrict our access to public lands.

I'm gonna ask the question - why the hell would you even try something like this with your damn intake up front like that?
