In Medford now, leave first thing in the morning.

At our hotel, sitting on the ground doing beers, waiting for a washer and dryer to free up so we could get back home with fresh laundry.

Just depends on what you want out of it as to how much they cost. I like a small radio and don't require a lot of features. I've had everything from a handheld cb up to a monster one with all the chrome knobs on it. All I need is a small one that doesn't take up a lot of space. Key is having a radio guy that knows what he's doing peak it and tune it for you. Mine was pushing out around 8-10 watts.

The weather feature is nice, and a couple mile range minimum would be good. I believe that's all I would even need. And I'm an idiot when it comes to this, but where do you get them tuned at?

I had mine done at the radio shop I bought it at.

Oh yeah, weather would be a great feature. You also have cb's with SSB (Single Side Band) you can get. Do a little reading on it and check out what's available. I've never had a SSB radio but it's always an option.

I like the inconspicuous look, so I keep everything put away until I need it.

    20170629_200257.jpg

Then I just pull the cords out, plug it in, then slide the radio on the adapter.

    20170629_200405.jpg

Finally, the antenna mast lives INDER the rear seats, and the base lives behind the back seat. When I need them, I run the base out the rear window, screw in the mast, and place it on the roof by the 3rd brake light.

If I bought another one I'd probably get one of the new Uniden's to play with ssb and the fancy screen. lol

One of these. Not recommending you buy this or spend that much just what I'd look into next time.

    https://www.rightchannelradios.com/products/uniden-980-ssb

For you the PRO520xl or the one Benz recommended would probably be all you would ever need.

Ya, the higher end trucker ones can be really pricey. But these simple ones are all you need.

One last piece of advice: start looking into HAM radio. A lot of groups are starting to move in that direction because the radios are more powerful (among many other benefits). But CB is a good one to have because most people still have and use them.

    Imma need this guys digits.

I almost picked up an SSB capabale radio. The only issue with SSB is that the person on the other end also needs to have SSB.

This is good info here. I've also been thinking of going to ham instead. I just need to get my license first. You can buy them for around $30 for a handheld too. Seen mobile one's for around $70. Of course these aren't Yaesu, Kenwoods or Icom's though but have a pretty good following and reviews. You will need to take an exam before using one though.

That's why I went with the Midland 75. It's small and can be converted to a handheld unit. That way I can plug it in if everyone else is using CB, I can carry it if I move to another rig, or I can loan it out if someone needs it.

    :frusty:

In Oregon, there are so many CB users, I'm pretty sure I can find a good, reputable shop around here.

I was never impressed with the handhelds I've had. They worked ok but just didn't have any transmit power.
