I understand your thoughts..... but there is no excuse for ridiculing other people (hazing, hurting, beating, etc). Gay or not.

When your child is being picked on and beat up by the school bully.... does that mean its OK for your child to continue to get beat up? No.

That type of behavior, in the miliary or not....needs to be addressed whether its teaching them about how not to discriminate or give them therapy to deal with their old-fashioned beliefs. Because, that type of behavior isn't acceptable anymore in todays society and shouldn't be accepted inside the military either.

I do respect what you guys do, I agree that it probably is just the bottom 2% that make everyone else look bad its like that everywhere military, offices work, healthcare.

I just dont think we can continue to tolerate behavior in our armed forces we would not tolerate in society as a whole, and I dont mean calling people pussies or putting tampons on their rack, I mean like attacking people physically, doing physical harm IMO criminal acts.

I am not challenging your right to have a strong opinion on the matter, just the point that has been made in this thread that if you are not military you have no say in the matter, I feel as a taxpayer and an American I do have the right to have an opinion on how my tax dollars are spent. Isnt that how this country was born, people had enough of being taxed with no say.

I do appreciate your ability to have an intelligent discussion about a topic you feel strongly about w/o resorting to name calling and anger, we could all understand each other better if we really listened to what the other side was saying. I have not changed my point of view on the issue but have a better understanding where you are coming from just the same, Thank You for that.

Excuse or not, it happens. Our kids are brought up with prejudices. Where they were born, raised, educated. Their ethnicity, religion, parents and peers all affect who we are.
It's not till later in life we are trained to leave some of those issues behind.

Most conform to the "norm". Some never do. We take these young people, with their current mindsets into the workforce. It doesn't matter if it's military or just plain old jobs. They get into a job and only then realize they have left the comfort they grew up with.
A good leader will mold them, taking into account their deficiencies. He/she will understand what it takes to motivate them to perform their jobs with minimal problems.
Yes, if they can't be properly trained/motivated then and only then should they should they be fired/prosecuted.

Note: No military background. Just a man who has seen change and learned to deal with it. Warfare may be different and I don't pretend to understand. Trying to keep my personal feelings out is difficult.

wow. a job is supposed to be fun. Nobody will stay if isn't. The military is built on career NCO's. They leave and the military falls apart. O and your tax dollars?

lets see a average E-3 makes roughly 2k a month
He deploys and his day is at least 12 hours. And the 12 hours hes "off" hes still in danger

    Works everyday so...12hrsx7daysx4weeks=336 hours

$2000/336= $5.9 dollars a hour to get shot at and get blown up
    not even minimum wage

Also please refrain from resorting to an ad hominem argument. because us
"immature frat punks" are fighting and dying everyday

Same here..... I just hate to see such hatred & disrespect.

Those who are prejudice - all seem to have some sort of excuse why they're prejudice. And because there's an excuse...it makes it OK.

There's not enough effort, caring, push, motivation or whatever it takes - from the leaders in country - to change this attitude. Unfortunately, you don't change their attitude, their children will grow up just the same.

My parents are prejudice with certain groups and I've had many arguements with them about their attitudes..... People need to grow some guts (balls) to say something. It's not right....

many people in here seem like its that gays want to be flaming and rub it in everyone's face while they are in....its not. they are trying to secure their justified positions in the military w/o reprocussions of being kick out and discharged from a job they love doing.

also on the hazing front, harmless hazing like the "snipe" hunting brought up earlier is one thing. we used to have FNGs looking for cable stretchers and left handed crescent wrenches. that is quite different than persecuting someone for how they live their life and beating them, torturing them, or killing them. those dont exactly fit "hazing."

if you cannot work w/ someone who is gay for fear that you might end up blowing them, you might be a little bi or gay yourself. i know i'm straight and i know that nothing is going to change that. i've been hit on by gay guys before and didnt immediately fall to my knees w/ a case of the chin nuts. if you think that you can be swayed that easily and you are "straight", then you are lying to yourself.

Actually, it's an all-volunteer military. Join by choice and stay by choice. I was in before and I'm not, guess why, cause I chose not to stay;)

he does have a point though. when i got to my first station in 02, there were people stop lossed from 9/11 and were stuck in for another 12 months or so. its voluntary that you sign that paper, but they own ur ass for that 2/4/6 years or whatever you sign for. now when that time is up and there are no stop loss restrictions, then yes you are free to leave. you can do so before that time, but expect to be AWOL and locked in federal pound you in the ass jail

scientific research also shows that evolution is fact and global warming is gonna destroy the earth. whatever. people can do all the "scientific" research they want, however people like myself will still have there opinions.

My opinion is that being gay is a choice. Everyone gets that feeling when your doing something wrong, you know its wrong. Im pretty sure gay people get that feeling, because they are doing something wrong.

    Get what im saying?

If you just want to hate, that's fine. Just hate. Don't try to make up bullshit to justify it.

I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert on the difference between gay and straight but even I know there is much more to sexuality than who you "fuck". If that's all sexuality is to you, I feel sorry for the miserable sex life you are currently experiencing.

You can choose what you fuck but you can not choose what you are attracted to.

Edit: Did you have to choose not to fuck a dude? I didn't. I have no interest in it.

gay people dont get a "wrong" feeling when they do what they do b/c they are living their life the way they know how and the way they were born

and you just proved solus's thing...you are born with your sexuality....and you contradicted yours that sexuality is a choice

no i didnt say sexuality as a whole was a choice, i said being gay is a choice. I believe we are all born straight, then the choice comes.

But anyways, i dont feel like arguing, and im not trying to bash on anyone. I mean i was just raised and taught to believe this.

I really am trying to get better at respecting other peoples way of life. I personally will never be gay, But im trying to get better at not hating on people.

Thanks for everyones imput, This thread actually makes you think of everything.

    No hard feelings guys
