I finally caved and bought a '10 Access Cab 4x4 V6; been wanting a Tacoma for about ten years and finally pulled the trigger. Found this site and it has been an invaluable resource.

I've tried searching and even found one thread that started to answer the question, but I'm hoping I can get a little more detail. I've decided to order the OME lift kit, but can't decide between 884s and 885s. Chris4x4 indicated that the sagging issues associated with 884s on an access cab have been resolved. However, in the same thread, someone else advocated for going with the 885s. I was hoping for feedback from people running either setup.

I have no plans of putting a heavy bumper on, just want to ensure the full 3" lift. If I go 885 do I risk stiffening the ride too much? Should I just stick to 884s?

I roll with 885s and I love the ride. I don't think you'll be upset either way.

Thanks Brunes. Did you put in the top plate spacers or skip them with the extra height of the 885s?

I did not get a full 3 inches with just the springs and I have not had time to work the spacers into the kit. I expect that I will be AT or JUST under 3 inches when I do.

I'm also thinking about swapping to 886s before I try....

I would go the 885's with the top plate spacer. I think you'll be happy.

I run the 885's with top plates and I am pretty happy with them. Also, consider some 5100 series shocks.

From what I have found the 885s are 10 mm taller than the 884s. Same spring rate and wire diam. just 10 little mm taller.

Front (2.75" total): 1.6" Eibach coils, Toytec 0.5" (L) & 0.25" (R) top plate spacers, 5100's @ 0.85", Built Right uniball UCA's, Differential drop, Removed sway bar Rear: TSB springs, Wheeler's 1.5" AAL, 5100's, 2* shims, Carrier bearing drop, F and R Spidertrax, 285/75-16 Goodyear Duratracs, Self-fabbed sliders, rear bumper, and skid plates, Cobra 75 CB, Bed lined slim lo-pro tool box, Bed Extender, Diff breather mod, Two tail gate security mods, Exhaust dumped behind axle, Can't leave shit alone so plenty more coming...
I'd say 885's. I personally would rather my truck be a little on the stiff side than the mushy side. Also, if down the road you decide to add a Westin bar, Avid bar, heavy plate bumper, winch, etc. You'll most certainly be better off with the heavier coils. Put the trim packer on the driver's side too. The top plate spacers need longer studs so I'd say go ahead and put them on while the struts are torn apart. If you don't like them, it only takes about an hour to pull out the spacers while leaving the long studs on the truck. Adding them later means you have to tear the whole strut apart again to install the longer studs, adding a few hours to the job (sounds like the boat Brunes is in).

I just have to swap the springs- I have the longer studs in place already. I wasn't sure about getting a bumper....but I'm going to do it...so I want the 886s.

I vote for the plates too!! (I think I forgot that part before...)

I have the 884s and love them. I still run the stock shocks but will probably swap them out for OMEs all around. I have not noticed any saging. If it sagged, it is very minimal.

this is true. same spring rate only the 885's are a bit taller. ARB shows the 885 for your truck! thats what i would go with. it should give you 3"'s of lift with just the coils.

I agree with the above poster who said that they would prefer stiffer springs than mushier springs, just to be on the safe side (especially if I add weight to the front in the future). Because of this I was about to order 885's, then realized that I have a 2.7L. Would I ever have any worry's running just 884's on a 2.7L Access cab? (2010 4x4)

EDIT - oops... just did a bit more research and found that 885's will give a bit more lift than I wanted. This post can be deleted.

Here are my thoughts. I have mulled this very issue over time and time again. For me, 884's seem the way to go with either 5100's or the OME shocks. Here is why I think that (for me at least). I have no intention of ever putting a bumber or bull bar on my front, so extra weight is not an issue for me. I have the TSB rear springs so my rear end is a tad higher than normal thus driving my nose down a tad. Not really an issue, but it does look a tad bit off with the space in the rear wheel well vs the front.

If I had gone the 885 route, I would most likely get the OME shocks which are more money. Also, the 885's will put you right around 3" or so give or take. At this height, new UCA's would be a smart move. It is not needed, but I feel that it should be done if you are up 3"'. Now, there will be a good deal of space in the wheel wells. Not to mention maybe rear-leaf pack to kinda even the look out. This will require new tires and perhaps rims. It is my beleif that if a person goes down this road with a 3" lift in the front, all of the above will happen at some point. Pretty expensive IMO.

I am looking for a bit of lift in the front to offset my look in the rear after the TSB. I could care less about 3". I just want a certain look. I do not want to buy new rims and tires now. When I do need tires, keeping the stock rims is the direction I will go.

The 884's give me the lift I need in the front and also allows me to run either the stock shocks, 5100's or OME's. 885/886 are recommended only w. OME shocks (even though people do otherwise and are fine). So lets say I keep the stock shocks, 884's are ~$160/pr. and ~$50 to install. Pretty cheap to me.

In the end, it comes down to what YOU are looking for. If you needs are in line with my needs, I urge you to look into the 884's. Alot of 885's guys on here have amazing trucks with the 885 3" lift. If that is the look you are going for, spend the cash if you have it or save it and do it right. Just know with 885's come with other expenses that the 884's might not have.

    Hope that helps someone.

Well said. I posted a thread a while back asking similar questions. Wanted to level out my ride after the TSB and achieve the best possible ride and stay away from the expense of new UCAs for now. Chris4x4 recommended the 884's. Placed my order last week and should arrive anyday now. Both the 884s and 885s use a new 90000 shocks, so it will be interesting to see the results.

Please report back once you get them on and drive around a bit. I am going with the same exact setup and would love to know how you like it. One of these days I have to get around to ordering my stuff. Hopefully with the good weather around the corner I will get it done. Just always busy!

best of luck with the new springs!
