Buy and drive whatever you want and makes you happy. Life is to short to drive something you don't like.

Good news and bad news. I care a lot about your predicament, so I consulted the friendly neighborhood oracle.

You have two options that will be perfect fits, the 2017 Ford Ranger, and the 2017 Toyota Hilux.

Looks like you will need to move to another continent (or Mexico) in order to fulfill your destiny....

    Sorry, jk- good luck

16' vs 17' Taco though. No idea why anyone would buy a first year model change and be surprised.

Frontier should be zero, they are basically the same going on 10 years.

As others have said, buy what you want and makes you happy.

I test drove numerous times, 2016 Tacoma, Canyon, Colorado, Ridgeline and Frontier. Each had their plus and minus. None were perfect. In the end it came down to between the Tacoma and the Frontier. Nissan one out. Toyota would not come close to matching the Nissan deal. Loved my 06 Tacoma. The 16Frontier Pro 4x is more than meeting my needs. May not get as good as mpg as the Tacoma, but it is close enough. I do like the performance out of the 4L and 5 speed auto. I would have purchased the Tacoma, but couldn't justify the extra bucks Toyota wanted.

I had a 14 Silverado, fit and finish along with the 6spd transmission left something to be desired. Not to mention GM has terrible resale. I'd stick to the 4 runner or tundra.
