what's the Texas overlander one?

 

It's a FB group full of folks who wonder around the dirt roads of Texas pretending we live in a state with public lands. It's where I've gotten a huge amount of maps of routes all over the state and surrounding area.

Other than being on FB, it's a good resource for overlanding type travel or as much of this we can get in Tx

That sounds about right. Though, at first, when I read that I thought you were going to say, "pretending to be overlanders." Which, I think, is also pretty accurate lol

 

I give to a bunch of those folks though for mapping out the routes and then sharing them. Thy have mapped hundreds of camp sites too so you could "Overland". My GF and I have been trying to recreate Overland style trips but honestly, we are going to be heading to NM a bunch to satisfy it

 

Just picked up a Mavic and have started playing with it. Think this is the one I've always wished for.

 

The maps are amazing. Kudos to the guys that have put them together. Right there with you though. I keep eyeing places in NM to trek out to. And I'm planning on hitting up Big Bend for Thanksgiving.

 

Check this out... I look at this daily on my phone and Ruidoso and Cloudcroft are always way cooler in temps



Tell us more about this big bend trip

 

I was in Colorado last week so the area was still fresh in my mind, and a couple days ago I remembered why it was always so pleasant to escape to the mountains in the summer. Cool evenings in the mountains, under the stars, are the best. There's simply nowhere to go in the summer here to get away from the heat.

Starting to plan for my first trip to Big Bend starting the weekend before Thanksgiving. As long as the skies are clear, it's a new moon that weekend which would allow for some epic star photography. I was considering looping down Black Gap, across River Road then up Old Ore Road. Should have time for more than just that but that's the plan so far.

I'm probably going to transfer to Sul Ross State University for my wildlife management degree. Big Bend for daaaaays....or years. Spicewood is not remote enough for me.
