Complete gasket set

1996 2.7. I've had an oil leak for a while. I don't know where it's coming from exactly. I see oil all over the front of engine. I'm guessing timing chain cover. Also on passenger side of engine. Not sure what that would be. I planned on regearing in about a month and since I'll have the front diff dropped I may as well pull my oil pan and replace that gasket/seal. If I'm that far I might as well pull the head to get timing chain cover seals and replace every other seal I can get to. What is a good gasket set to get that has all the gaskets/ seals that I need? I've seen bottom engine sets. Head gasket sets. Is there a complete set or just combine the two? Thanks.

You may only be leaking from the crank seal and the oil filter mount. Seems like a lot of work to pull the timing chain cover if you don't know if it leaks.

 

I agree. I'm not certain where it's at. It does seem to be seeping from the front bottom of engine at the bottom of the timing chain cover. Also from the passenger front upper part. It's not a daily driver so I got the time. But I don't want to do all that if it's not needed. Thought I'd do it since I'll have the front diff dropped. Hate to go back and drop it down again later.

 

My truck was leaking oil at the crank seal, oil pan gasket, and oil filter bracket mount (not the filter itself). I actually couldn't tell until after the crank seal was fixed about the other 2 leaks. I suggest getting some degreaser and cleaning it multiple times to figure out where it's leaking.

 

Also, if you have a leak on the very front, the only thing it can be is valve cover gasket, crank seal, or oil pump gasket. Oil pan could fall into that too, but you won't be able to tell if there is a leak higher up.

 

+1 for degreasing detective work! Hot water and lots of it makes metal hot enough to get oil to start dripping off much more easily than just straight degreaser at ambient temp too.

 

What's involved with replacing the crank seal?

Couldn't look through this because CT is not jiving with my phone's web browser, but looks like it might have some good info. Just google crank seal 3rz and this was the first thing that came up - until others can chime in.

 

Just gotta remove the crank pulley. I believe it's 210ft-lb or so.
