fj cruiser an tacoma have the same engine right?

my friend has an fj and says he has to use premium fuel??? i thought the tacoma and the fj shared the same 4.0 V6. what am i missing here?

 

Yeah same engine. Just one of those things as far as I can tell. If you use premium you can also expect the same HP numbers the FJ is boasting. And if i'm not mistaken which I have been known to do, he doesn't have to run premium.

 

For 2010 the engines in the Tacoma, FJ, and 4runner are the same. Says toyota. What year is your buddy's FJ?

Incorrect. For 2010 the V6 engine in the FJ Cruiser and 4runner are the same. ...but different than the V6 in the Tacoma and Tundra. For 2010 Toyota added dual VVT-I to the 4.0 V6 in the FJ Cruiser and 4runner but not the Tacoma and Tundra.

Same fuel for all though...regular unleaded.

 

Right but the engines are the same. The FJ and 4Runners just have dual VVT-I. No physical change to the engine.
