For the military i do not believe it is. For the civilian market though it is pretty common. Its a fine twist rate for the 55-62gr bullets (and others) though and since thats what probably 90% of 223 shooter use...

I have Anderson lowers under Colt and Noveske uppers. I buy them because of the particular surname, KY and I'm a horseman. The fact that they're cheap is a bonus. No issues with the half dozen or so I've used. The only thing I don't like is the finish. Although uniform they are lighter in color than most upper receivers.
My favorite lower is the Spikes Crusader though.

Finally got around to finishing my first ever AR build. All told it was a 6 month process of buying parts on sale and cobbling them together. Pretty pleased with how it turned out, but I haven't shot it yet.

Looks good! Solid parts selection on the outside. Looks like you put some thought into what you're going to do with it and didn't throw any unneeded stuff on there. Nice work. What parts kit and BCG and barrel are in there?

Parts kit is just generic palmetto kit, but the trigger is a Geissele. BCG is a NiB FailZero and the barrel is a faxon 18" heavy fluted. My goal was to spend the most money on the barrel, BCG, and trigger which to me are the most important parts.

That's a great first build. It's kind of all-encompassing. Might be hard to improve on it!

Just ordered a magpul fixed stock to replace my the stock that came on my mp15 sport. Quick question the buffer tube is 10" long with no groves on the bottom for a collapsible stock, does that make it a rifle length tube?

If it's 10" long, then it's safe to assume that it's a rifle length tube. A carbine tube is about 7 1/4".
Just make sure you have a rifle buffer and spring as well.

I bought the gun new with a 16 inch barrel, so im assuming it should have carbine buffer and spring inside?

Yeah, if you've got a collapsible stock, then you have a carbine tube. Just Google rifle AR15 rifle buffer and spring. There's no confusing carbine and rifle buffers.

the stock is not collapsible put screwed in with a allen head bolt. So a carbine length stock wouldnt work on a rifle length gas tube

Now I'm confused as to what kind of gun you have. Can you post a pic? I'd hate to give you improper info.

Ok, cool. So it's definitely a full carbine set-up all around as pictured. And as I understand, you have purchased a rifle stock that comes with a rifle(A1/A2) buffer tube?

If so, then yes, you will need to have a rifle buffer and spring if it wasn't already included.
