    Most companies base repair coverage on OE parts. If you want aftermarket covered you need to declare it and get extra coverage on your insurance. I've got extra coverage for the shell on my truck. I need to talk to my agent before I renew to talk about all the other stuff I've installed in the last year. Just remember, if you got your parts on sale, through a GB, or other smoking deal, to use MSRP/retail pricing when you cover your parts. You want to cover the cost of buying the part new later if it's damaged. Not what you initially paid.

    Also, don't be surprised if they're surpised/confused when you ask about getting extra coverage for aftermarket parts. Most people don't do it because they don't know/care, so it may take the agent some digging in their system to find the right info. I know when I brought it up with my agent they were surprised, and it took them a few minutes to find the right page in their system to put it in. I'm with Farm Bureau.

    I will try to call later. I have F/R bumpers, lift, wheels/tires, regear, RTT, bed cage, electronics, etc.. I have receipts for everything, so I can dig those up to provide to them, if they need it.

    My insurance didn't ask me for receipts, and I wouldn't be able to produce them for quite a few of my items. Stuff I need to see about adding the mapecu3, plx gauges, header/exhaust and rims. I've also got a Demello bumper on order, and I'm getting in on the Baja Kit LT GB. Then later I'll have whatever I end up with for my rear suspension setup and a rear bumper most likely.

    I have Allatate. I know they'll cover up to $1000 of aftermarket parts on a normal policy.

    Yeah. Extra coverage is always going to have a cost associated with it. I'd have to go dig out my policy to see what mine cost. It wasn't a lot though. I paid $775 and change for the year last year when I moved out to VA (~65/month), and I have way better than state minimums.

    this is copied from my insurance page:

    Add-On Equipment
    Excess Electronic Equipment
    Automobiles, Trucks, Vans and SUVs: If Other than Collision and Collision coverage is selected on a vehicle, the most we will pay for loss to electronic equipment that reproduces, receives or transmits audio, visual or data signals that is permanently installed in the auto in locations not used by the auto manufacturer for installations of such equipment is $1,000.

    If you need additional coverage select Add-on Equipment coverage for the vehicle with the equipment.

    If Add-on Equipment is selected, the most we will pay out for loss to this equipment is increased from $1,000 to the amount shown for AOE coverage in the Declarations page.

    Excess Electronic Equipment coverage also covers tapes, records, disks and other media. Our limit of liability for these media items is $200.

    Customizing Equipment Coverage
    Trucks, Vans and SUVs ONLY: Our policy contract excludes physical damage coverage for any customizations to trucks, vans and SUVs.

    If you have customized your truck, van or SUV you can cover that up to $5,000 with Add-on Equipment coverage.

    Customizations include but are not limited to:

    • Special carpeting or insulation;
    • Furniture or bars;
    • Height-extending roofs; or
    • Custom murals, painting, or other decals or graphics.
    Note: These definitions are intended only as a guideline. All terms and coverages are defined solely by the policy. Coverage limits, deductibles, and certain exclusions may apply.

    Its my understanding, that it only goes up to $5k ?

    That's what I read it as. It's going to vary by company. Wouldn't be a bad idea to shop around if you're worried about it.

    A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
    Most insurance don't pay for any add-ons. After I got my new topper I called my insurance co to ask them whether or not the topper was covered. They said it was covered under my "addional coverage" under my comp. In My policy case I have 500 deductible. So If I am in a crash that the topper is trashed --or it flys off and hits the ditch, I would get what it's worth minus 500 bucks. This is with AAA. Everyone should check their policy. You can get additional "riders" added on for added equipment --but I will warn you the ins. co.s hit you hard for this coverage. Just be aware what you have , so you don't die of shock when you have a crash!

    Sorry for your loss. Glad you guys are ok. I had my 2005 trd sport totaled this year also. I love that truck and wish I still had it but getting $20890 from insurance surprised me. It had 140000+ miles on a ten year old truck. Didn’t even have 4wd on my access cab.

    This why you should never tow a vehicle with an insurance claim back to your house. Have it towed to the tow yard or a body shop (if it's not totaled) were they charge for storage, billable to your insurance if you have full coverage.

    That sucks it took so long. Usually when we tow a vehicle in on an insurance claim, they are out the next day or two, but we charge $130 per day.
