Most cars/trucks these days will make well over 200k even with regular old dinosaurs. The 2002 S10 I sold after buying the Tacoma had 251,000+ and still going. We didn't run synthetic, just 5W-30 every 5,000 miles. The Caprice had 221,000 when I sold it on the same regimen.

Just follow the manual and you'll be fine. They test the snot out of this stuff.

@Willbird We test the oil monthly on our machines as well. We also have to clean new oil before it goes in. There are other factors that impact the oil in big machines..... I think the process in an auto design is probably more stable when compared to the design.

I still have a Blackstone oil sample kit for my next oil change on the Taco.

Toyota won't change it at 5k, only every 10k, been down that road with them. I do it myself every 5k...

This is why I didn't purchase their warranty with maintenance package. They told be they use to change the oil every 8,000 kms but now only change it every 16,000 kms. Yeah, I'm more particular. I change it myself every 8,000-10,000 using synthetic.
    Just my feelings though

0W-20 only comes in synthetic oil no matter what brand you buy.

I purchased a lifetime oil treatment from the dealer. Oil will never need to be changed. Came with a lifetime filter as well.

Sure they will, you just have to pay them. Dealer told me I can use the two oil changes included in the first 25k however I see fit....I can use them at 5k and 10k, then pay for 15k, 20k myself..

I guess Either way u pay for 2 if u want and they pay for 2... I also changed the oil filter housing to the aluminum one to replace the plastic from the factory.

Always double check & triple check other ppl when it comes to your business as
the zombies have finally taken over. I asked for an oil filter for my '16 3.5 V-6 Tacoma, and he handed me one for the 4.0L!

Some ppl don't get one, they might have bought a new demo or they needed it for another sale?
Either way, the vast majority don't even read because it may too long , too boring and a lot of stuff needs to be updated from a 100 years ago lol! (J/K but true)

    Cheers!

I can't imagine leaving the dealer with my new vehicle without an owner's manual. No excuse for not providing one.

The sales guys make all kinds of convincing promises about getting missing items when making a purchase.

I learned to say "when you have, I'll buy it" or "I need the cash discount or equivalent option" before I leave, because once you leave with new vehicle, there's always an excuse as to why they don't have it yet, but they always say "you'll get it I promise".

I wouldn't leave without it because of the leather like carrying case, Toyota gives a it's real nice one, don't let them give you a shitty paper one either lol!

    Cheers!

Dumb question to add to the discussion - If an oil change is not necessary at 5k miles (unless under Severe Duty), why does the maintenance light come on at that time? To check fluids and rotate the tires?

Its a maintenance light, so it indicates maint. required. Exactly as you said, its time to check fluids and rotate tires. If they programmed the light to come on every 10k, then there would be people that never looked at or go get looked at, the other things until then.

Just bought a 2019 and I tow a trailer every day for work. The maintenance book that came in the truck says to change the oil after 5km or 6 months.....so dealer has to honor this, right? Truck comes with free factory maintenance for initial 25km/2yrs.

You’ll get a service at 5k but they don’t change the oil until 10k miles. I don’t know the translation to kilometers.

Or you get 2 oil changes, if you want to use the first one at 5k you can do that, but you will only get 2

We don't get any free maintenance from Toyota Canada unless you buy the 7 year extended warranty, which really just extends the warranty by 4 years, and then it is not free: $3,500Cdn. No sale.

My salesman and I did a walk around that I signed off on and it stated that my first scheduled service is 6 months after purchase. It turns out that based on build date, the truck will be 14 months old when it gets its first service. I was also told that oil changes should be every 10k kms or 6 months, whichever comes first.
