Does anyone know if there's a mileage or date cutoff for this differential recall?

Well I definitely had oil weeping out the top two bolts so when I dropped it off I thought it would be awhile till they gave it back. They gave me a TRD Sport 4x4 to drive in the meantime so that's an upgrade to me. Well surprisingly they called yesterday and said they tightened the bolts and I can pick it up....say what? Also, the other things I wanted them to look into "could not be duplicated by the tech". So Monday I am going to the dealership to figure out what the heck is going on.

That's frustrating, I guess you better go armed with the Toyota paperwork that people have brought up in this thread about weeping and leaking / The appropriate dealer remedy. Good luck, I hate when dealers pull this stuff.

At 5k service, dealer retorqued and cleaned up my seeping diff. Not more than 2 weeks later it is seeping again. Did not work for me. They did order parts and will reseal when they come in. OR not in the recall.

No to both questions. This recall was announced on 4/27/17. No mileage or date cutoff has been mentioned.

And this is why I traded my Tacoma for a 4Runner. BEFORE I knew about the recall.Thankfully I found a good deal on a 16 4Runner SR5 Premium at the Honda Dealer while I was leasing her another CRV They had two used 4Runners. I told them the new Tacoma would be a much easier sell. They agreed and we traded my Sport for the 4Runner. Nice to have electronic seats again.... Now I want the Limited.......dammm. BTW my truck has been sitting at Toyota for the last month waiting on parts. The Honda dealer did not even have the chance to put it out front.

I have since traded the 4Runner SR5 for a new Limited on order. I won't wait for the "new" 2018 4Runner after my experience with the "new" Tacoma and the 3.5 which the new 4Runner is supposed to get.

Took my truck in late Saturday afternoon for 10k service. Mind you, my trucks VIN does not come up for any recall. I still mentioned to the service advisor that my diff was weeping and that it shifts funny in the mornings. I'm expecting to get the truck back Monday but we'll see.

As the recall is taking 2 forevers to be completed anyone with a paying SiriusXM subscription should suspend it. They will only suspend it 30 days but better than nothing.

I called the day they took my truck and they put the entire account on hold. I just have to call them when I get it back and they'll turn it back on. They said they just apply the unused balance back to the account, which should just change my anniversary date.

My 2016 TRD Sport was leaking fluid when I took it in for the recall on June 29th. They said they didn't know when they would get the part in to replace it. Oh well, at least I'm saving miles on my truck while I drive their loaner...

Quick update on my situation. The service manager met with me and listened to my concern about the noise I am hearing (that they were not able to duplicate) and rode out with me. I was able to duplicate it several times and he was going to get a tech to ride with him later to start trouble shooting. He also looked at the rear diff and said yep, we gotta keep per the recall verbage. Nice dude, very good too see someone like him in charge. The waiting game starts....thanks for everyone's help.

Update: Well I think I'm fucked out of my truck. I didn't get my truck back today (Monday 7-3). The service manager called and said he opened a case with Toyota regarding the weeping diff. I had also complained about the shift flare and there is a separate case being opened there. I asked for a loaner but they will not get back to me until after the holiday Wednesday (7-5) , pending approval from corporate. I should have just serviced the engine myself and kept my mouth shut, since my VIN didn't show any recall. Very embarrassing at work being asked were my truck is. I'm bumming rides to work with my sister and only have my bicycle and skate board to get around town in the meantime. FML. /rant over]

You at least need a loaner, how're you supposed to get around, why didn't they just give you one today, was it closing time?

Took my truck in today and it was held with no promise of return date. Parts are ordered for diff and the A/C fan broke last week. I have been given a frontier as a loaner from enterprise. Case file opened with Toyota... will start poking the bear on Wednesday. Calls to corporate and several emails coming up to be sent daily. Shouldn't have sent me the letter staying there is a remedy and only take 3.5 hours to repair diff bolts and seal. I have read of 2 cases that the recall was performed, bolts and gasket replaced only to have it leak again. Those trucks got a complete new axle. So hold on boys this is going to be a long bumpy road I think. GLWYT
Edit. I am told the hard item to come by is the housing gasket.

Shouldn't this be a piece of cake for Toyota to fix? It's not like they're noobs at this.

No. Actually we worked out a good deal. My monthly payments are the same and I upgraded to a 4x4!

Got mine back this past Thursday, 6/30, had turned in on May 19th. Reps were very apologetic and prior to giving my truck back they had detailed it inside and out. Looked better than the day I drove it off the lot. Good luck to rest of you and hoping you get your rides back soon.
