Put a 4" deck plate into the Tacoma today, and when I started the truck up the 'Check Engine' light was on. Overall, the process took 2 days (long story), but I was safe and put a plastic bag over the intake, and I took whatever sensor that's in the intake out. I put a little silicone and paint around the deckplate, but I waited for it to dry for at least 6-7 hours. Any ideas on what it could be? Do I need to reset the computer since the sensor was moved, and if so how?

I have the stock K&N air filter replacement, but I don't see how that can affect anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I used bathroom silicone... Should I remove the silicone I used ASAP and put sensor safe?

should be able to find it at most auto parts stores...

as for the OP...wait another 12-24 hours, disconnect the battery for a couple minutes...and then see if the light returns

Is there anyway that I could have damaged the sensor?

And I'll let it sit for the night and give it a try mid day with the supposed 'warmer' weather.

sensor safe doesnt emit the fumes that regular silicone would...the fumes mess with the MAF

That's funny. Just remove your EFI fuse for about 1 min.to reset the CEL. If that doesn't work then try changing the silicone. I think I bought my sensor safe silicone at Walmart. If not, it was at Auto Zone.

Yes, your truck will start sneezing and post nasal drip will occur causing the radiator to leak. :D

typically yes...but i suppose its possible to damage it...

i would venture to guess that if theres no other problems with just a major coincidence...resetting the light via battery or pulling a fuse and letting the truck sit for like 12 hours SHOULD fix the issue

Mike you bring up a good point...i was focused more on the bathroom silicone...the spray paint could easily mess with the MAF too

i'd say you damaged your sensor. ...not likely to be fumes if you let it dry for 7 hours.
