Those damn mud flaps/guards are my only complaint about my truck. They are too rigid (break right off) and way too expensive to replace (like 90 some per), I am down to one left of my second full set. I remember I had those rubber ones with metal connection brackets on my 2000 Taco, please Toyota BRING THEM BACK.

There are a few other small things but I can live with them.

    1. Plastic bed is absolutley ridiculous.
    2. No heated outside mirrors. Every once in a while I have to park outside overnight, and a freezing rain/snowstorm will coat them good. Ice scrapers don't mix (long-term) with mirrors.
    3. Difficult to enter. The seat is wearing thin where my hip/butt rubs it when I get in. I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs so it aint me.
    4. Trip computer functionallity sux.
    5. No diesel option.

I'm not really as impressed with this truck as I thought I would be. I haven't driven it in two months, driving a 2wd 2500 diesel Ram. First $27000 takes it, and that's with the topper.

It would be nice if they had the upgraded leafsprings when you buy it and some more stock hp if possible

Not really a problem with the truck, but more with Toyota, and probably won't apply to you.

US Dealers won't/aren't allowed to sell to Canadians. Canadian dealers won't sell below MSRP.

And the regular cab is not available in Canada

The Tacoma is the best, most reliable truck out there. Of ourse it isn't perfect. My only dislikes: a) the truck is too big. I liked the size of my 1995 Tacoma. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, we need a hybrid and higher gearing in the top gear for gas mileage. If my Tacoma got 35 mpg like it could, I'd keep it forever.

BTW, who started this thread? Why? Are you a spy?

The interior materials absolutely suck. The seats stain, the dash scratches, the arm rests are made out of seat fabric and the center console and door handles are made out of a rubber material. Whoever the interior design team is they should be shot. I'm looking forward to the new F-150 I'm gonna get in 2 years once they work the bugs out. I've have my truck 2 1/2 months and I'm looking forward to selling it already.

I got toasted here before for saying this, but the cupholder right behind the gear shifter and closest to my right hand wont accomodate a 20-oz bottle. There is all that empty wasted console room! How hard would it have been just to dig it out a little wider!

Other than that, it's money. I even love how it rides stiff. Keeps my wife out of the drivers seat.

Yeah I know....where do I fit my baby bottle and sippie cup. Save it smart-asses.

I hope the toyota engineering team is reading all of these posts and taking notes...

The front visibility is poor. Who put that rear view mirror there? The hood appears to have been made higher than neccessary to clear the engine in order to make the truck look "tuff". The previous tacoma hood sloped forward and allowed you to see rocks and stumps nearer the front of the truck. Also, the higher side window rests make leaning out of the truck to check the drivers side tires when rock crawling more difficult. The rear windows could also have made a little larger.

My other major gripe; the exhaust crossover pipe hangs lower than the transmission cross-member and appears to be vulernable to rock hits. It is somewhat flexible, but I would rather not find out the hard way that it is not flexible enough to prevent the exhaust from developing a leak when the truck gets high centered.

An automatic tranny that uses normal fluid and can be easily serviced by the home mechanic would also have been apprecieated.

I have also read that flimsy rear bumpers will flex up and brake the tail lights if they get hung up on something. I caught the rear corners of my stock first gen. tacoma and never had this problem.

    Oh yeah -the mud flaps.

This isn't some whiny BS, pie in the sky crap like the other posters. Won't hear me whine about Ipod jacks either. 4x4 Access Cab, 4cyl manual here. Gears are to steep. 5 is geared for the autobahn. 1st is to steep. Hard to start out. Engine rattles. Engine exhaust is loud. Road noise is loud. Truck feels un-refined when compared to it's American counterparts. Shifting is not smooth. I drove 18 wheeler and numerous manuals. I should know. Plastic bed seems cheesy. We shall see how it takes heavy items being tossed in. No bed pockets to put vert rails in. No front d-ring tie downs. Gas and electrical routing on the bottom sucks. Serious 4x4ing would whipe it out. Warranty is sub-par compared to the competition. Essentially if this thing doesn't go 100K without clutch or other failure I won't be buying Toyota again.

I guess I was being dumb but I was sure disappointed that Toyota Corporation is as bad as all the other car companies when it comes to parts prices. You buy a car from these guys and you become their "victims". Over a 100 bucks for a key, 90 bucks for a mud flap............ Jeez

Oh, an outside temp and a average mpg gauge would be great. I didn't know that cars were still built without a outside temperature gauges.

The soft brake issue surprised me. What's with that? Not exactly a confidence builder.:der:

Another big issue have with the 05+

I HATE the electronic switch 4x4. Toyota, you want me to buy a brand new one? Put a manual transfer case in.

Edit: Whats all this talk about the Temperature Gauge? I have one.

WTF is your problem. I don't really like or love the truck, is that a crime or a bannable offense here?

Toyota Tacoma's interiors suck, deal with it.

The odometer is off, giving a faulty more MPG rating 3-5%. This can be corrected with bigger tires, but why is the standard tire not correct. It should read incorrect with the bigger mod tire.

Now that's a good idea. The '09 F-150 looks cool and maybe at the end of the year will cost as much as the Taco.
