I am ready to purchase the lift for my son's truck. We want at least 6 inches . But what is a good lift or combo of suspension and body. Without paying 2500 would like to keep it below 1500

Curious. What creates this 'need'? Looks? Because 6" of lift doesn't equal a new 6" of ground clearance.

I'm thinking you need to save up more.

for a 6 inch budget lift seems like one of the cheaper drop bracket kits will be the only way to achieve that lift with your projected budget

there is a large common consensus here that a 3 inch suspension lift and a 1 inch body lift would be the better way of achieving lift

but everyone takes the route they so choose at the end of the day :oldglory:

could always just add some insane size spacers and blocks for a really cheap budget boost, but I myself would highly suggest against this

There is no "good" 6-inch lift in your price range. You'll either be doing a mediocre 3 inch lift and 3inch body lift (preferred, but still not great) OR you're cutting out your front crossmember and welding cheap shit in place. A quality 6 inch drop bracket lift kit exists, but not within your price range. Why do you NEED a six inch lift? Youll have a bitch of a time stuffing anything bigger than a 33 under your truck when you try to steer regardless.

6" bracket lifts are not the best option. If you want looks, performance and not to high of COG go with a 3" full suspension and some 285s.

This will give you quite a bit of lift.

So you know, a 3 inch lift will require new upper control arms, and won't accommodate 33's any better than a 2 inch lift. With the added cost of upper control arms, you'll have to skimp on the coil overs and shock to keep your son's truck within budget. I recommend going to headstrong offroad's website and going with a full OME lift kit that includes coil overs (with new lift coils), shocks, and a dakar leaf pack along with all the goodies you need to install them. That'll fall within your budget and you'll get QUALITY suspension. Lifting the extra inch don't aid tire clearance. You still have to tub, trim, BFH and chop to get 33's to clear regardless.

My 33's don't rub w/ ~3" from 255/85/17's to 285/70/17's I just needed to clear out the end of the pinch weld. The mud flaps and fender flares could make a difference though - I don't have those.

this is not true at all, i have the typical 5100/ toytec set up in front of my 2002 xtra cab 4x4 and have 0 issues rubbing with 33x10.5x15 bfgs even when wheeling. as for control arms... tell that to the alignment shop that perfectly aligned my truck within spec on stock control arms after the lift.

to the op. there is endless info on this website about the 5100/toytec spring 3" lift setup. try the search function. and please dont do any awful drop bracket lift. these trucks are basically unusable after one of those are installed. i rode in a friends truck with a 6" fabtech db lift and it was complete garbage. handled terrible on the road and there was no wheeling going to be had with it.

I see you have a 2014 Tacoma. Did you used to own a 1st gen or something? Trying to understand why you're giving (bad) advice for a truck that you don't seem to own.

hey now, just another opinion.... but hey dont get me wrong, I do not run one as I see no need for it me myself on my truck...

BUT a TON of people here who wheel their rigs VERY hard use them when and if needed with no issues... just as well, like a TON of people slap them on and in return get a massive dangerous headache out of a dumb body lift...

there is no one right way to build a rig... can not have it all in one.

    unless...

not for 1st gens. ucas are recommended but not required. and 33s can be cleared stock with right bs and trimming/bfh treatment. 10.5 wides are quite easy to fit.

Your biggest issue is price. I'm currently running a 6" Fabtech lift (in the front, didn't do the back cause I HATE blocks) which I believe runs around $2,500. I got lucky and found the front used for a good price and installed it myself.

With your budget I'd definitely go the 3" route. Run suspension front and rear with either AAL or shackle lift. Skip the blocks. Function is the same, if not better and there's less work involved. Only reason I went with the Fabtech is cause I know I'll SAS one day and just wanted the extra lift til it becomes my weekend warrior.

Just to add to the pile...my 255 85 16's (measure 32.75") rub a tiny bit on the frame otherwise they're just fine on OME 2.5" lift.

I goofed and thought I was in the 2nd gen section. Pay no attention to my post, op. My post only applies to 2nd gen tacos.
