I suggest you read, multiple times, a book called 'maximum boost' by Corky Bell, before you spend a dime on anything.

It's always good to have an idea of what you are doing before starting.

In addition to what @Torspd suggests on the mechanical testing of your current engine health I'd suggest sending an oil sample off to Blackstone Labs for a diagnosis of additional wear conditions based various metal content.

Once you understand the effort and potential results needed to boost a 2.4, you may find that a v8 swap is more lucrative for similar $, depending on how deep you have to dig in the current motor.

How similar are the 2rz and the 3rz? I see that the manifolds are the same is it the same motor with a different stroke?

If you spend.... I don't know a day or 3 reading thru @Torspd build link. You'll see he is one twisted dude that has tried just about everything. He knows from experience and has one bad ass build.

I don't really know too much about the 2rz, but as far as needing to rebuild the engine goes, I doubt you need to. Unless your heart is set on rebuilding an engine (nothing wrong with that) I'd do what the other guys are suggesting, a compression test and maybe an oil analysis and then see where you end up. Even if you're on the lower end of compression you can still go turbo, you just may have some oil smoke out the tail pipe on decel.

stole this pic from @Jstand build thread, I don't remember what he paid for the manifold but it was very reasonable (less than I have in my headers and y-pipe and piping for sure and I would guess saved about 20 hours on the install haha) and it is set up for a t-3 turbo and vband wastegate already and it just bolts on and the only exhaust you have to worry about is post turbo (kinda jelly coming from a v6 but I guess that's the price I pay) [IMG] He can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the guy does custom work so if you had a t-4 turbo in mind I'm sure he could make substitutions.
