a few pics from the Steamboat to Wyoming run.
Hoping the other guys did better than me.
@Squeaky Penguin @aero3685 @Reh5108 @Night Eagle and the old man.

A little hangup on a rock

We all cleared this so it was left.

    Somebody's Swedish chainsaw wouldn't start.

Dust was the theme for the day.

We were overqualified to be on this trail. It wasn't that bad. Cool sign though, would look good at the edge of my driveway.

Dust just hanging in the air. Was the main attraction of the day, lol.

Brett had a branch hang up in his bumper.

Luckily Leo had a cordless forestry sawzall and was able to save the day.

That's it. Great day despite the dust, was nice to finally meet @Reh5108 .

I'll see if I have any on the real camera, but one from the phone

I always try to leave a campsite better than I found it, in this case it involved a pile of firewood, and a new bench.

So how did you put that together? Just happen to have screws and a drill with you?

It sounds planned to me. :)

You'll have to go up and see. :D

Wasn't planned at all. Was a team effort between Brandon, Ryan, and myself. No screws needed for such fine jointery. Was made with a chainsaw, a drill with a 1/2" bit, and wood. That's it.

We assumed it would be some philistine UTV driver that would smash it up for a laugh.

At least its all people, not just me.

We figured the POS UTV crowd would demolish it, but there's hope that it won't be.

I do have pics but keep getting minimal service, can't upload with that, browsing is ok. Maybe tomorrow.

I still need to forward pictures of some off trail trash to the forest service. All of us told them they were off trail (going around snow). They smiled, waved for my camera and continued on. So hopefully the FS will be able to work with clear shots of operators and registration stickers. :bananadance: I haven't personally done it yet but I've seen multiple instances for similar stuff where they will track down the owner and take appropriate action after being provided with identifying pictures and gps location.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! After seeing DOZENS of them yesterday, each with a new and more clueless operator, I seriously started associating them with a plague.

    Like locusts or some shit.
Godspeed, brother. They're gonna ruin it for all of us if it isn't dealt with.

Yeah we discussed that a bit... Unfortunately any forward progress initiatives will be heavily contested by hefty lobbying by the manufacturers.

    soapbox time.
unfortunately, the companies who represent/manufacturer those utv's/atv's have a lot of money and legal resource to keep their agenda going.
The irony is eventually the USFS will close down all the roads and drive them to alternative means of business. IE: UTV's and ATV's and 4x4's in general will eventually become illegal.
When all that was needed was a little education as the purchase was being made.

Get out and run those elite trails now that you want to do. They will eventually be shut down.

Sadly, unless some accountability is required on the part of the ATV/UTV users, that's the likely end state of things.

I put up a short, no pics, report on Trails Offroad for Red Elephant Hill. Ran it yesterday afternoon for the first time. It has a few challenging spots which make you pay attention. Plenty of tight and twisty places in the trees. Not surprising, ATVs has made several bypasses/shortcuts which was disappointing to see. Definitely not a beginner's trail.
