So apparently Colorado has this "public land" idea where you just... Go places. It's awesome. There are trails through the mountains where the rule is "don't be an asshole", not "get off my land". We took a two hour trail ride followed by a 1/4mi hike to a 12,4XX' summit, above the tree line, and watched a lightning storm roll through in the distance.

There was still snow up there, so we had a snowball fight, because it's July, and it's normal.

Unfortunately, now I want on board air and a RTT/flip camper tent setup.

My neighborhood, they're putting in a new development next door. I will warn you that I've seen those earthmovers get stuck and need the big boy dozers to push them out.

    Truck stuff
Blm land is great! It's all over the west. One of the reasons I loved my first trip to CO last year.
You got to take advantage when you have the truck!

I ran into a little bit of snow when was in CO 2 weeks ago.

    DSC_0176.jpg

This was around 12k in elevation, still nearly another 1k to the summit of the pass (California Pass, 12,930). Once we go to the top, we hiked up to the top of the cliff to hit that 13k mark. Cannot get enough of those mountain roads!

Welcome! Where did you move from?

Come out to the next meet and hang out!
What area is this in? Also is this considered a mountain pass road?

@Zac of all trades do you realize that there are multiple brick house taverns around here? Might want to be more specific.

This was on California Gulch, but the road does go up and over California Pass, which is definitely a mountain pass.

This trail is in Southwest CO off of the Alpine loop.

ive been to all of them in NTX, all about the same. I really like their food, drink menu is nice too. There are also cozy seats so @TXTaco13 and @hoarder23 can continue their love spat in person.

My cousin lives in Kittredge. Planning on making a trip out there next year. Any reason to be weary of taking a route like that alone?

Depends on the time of year... late in the year when the snow has melted, going alone is fine, just don't take unnecessary risks like crossing streams that you are not sure of or trying to get a across a snow bank covering a trail.

Early in the year when there is a lot of snow there is a lot more potential to run into trouble and a lot less likelihood of anyone being around to help you.

After July 1st, you are probably good to go, at least on the trails around where I go.

If you mean alone as in single vehicle then ok, but I wouldn't go without someone else at least riding along. You never know... I almost got hit by a large rock that had randomly fallen off of cliff, would have needed my passenger to drive as out if it had got me.

On lesser used roads and trails, I probably wouldn't go anywhere that I couldn't hike out of by dark in case of a disabled truck.
