I agree, I've seen the markup when I shopped around and researched the first time. But verdict is still out with the 3rd gens, tons more tech, I'd rather pay for the peace of mind if the price is fair. And as with my 16 you always can sell it back, so its not a total loss.

If you sell before the extended warranty expires you can get money back by cancelling it or use it to help sell the vehicle by including it.

    This.

I didn't get the extended warranty because I think I will need tie rod ends an alternator or some dumb crap at 90k miles. I will just do that myself. If the trans or motor shits the bed at 90K I will be glad I got it though.

At the end of the day (at least for me) $1800 is not that much money for a little peace of mind.....if it was I probably wouldn't have bought a $40K truck. Works out to like $25/month for the time period covered out of factory warranty. I beat them up on the price of it though, I think they originally wanted like $2800 for it which wasn't going to happen. Warranty is through Toyota which is nice.

Only thing that scares me is I want to lift the truck....so we will see how that goes.....

    Understood. Nice that it's transferable/refundable.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of folks forget those options. Seems not many around here sell on their own, but prefer the joy of trading. And it's unlikely the salesman will remind them of that refund option in most cases.........

If you stick with Toyota then they just deduct it from the next extended warranty, or at least that's how they did with me.

All extended warranties, whether it's for your truck or your blender, are nothing more than insurance policies. And whenever you buy insurance (and yes, I know, sometimes we have to) you are essentially betting against yourself with the insurance company, which is betting on you. Is that what any of us really want to do, bet against ourselves?

I know that I've paid untold tens of thousands of dollars in insurance premiums over the course of my life, and have made claims that might, tops, equal 10% of what I've paid out in premiums. Over any considerable period of time, and assuming that we are not complete fuckups, he house always wins, gentlemen, the house always wins.

I have never been much of an extended warranty kind of person but vehicles have become so complex and single components can run several grand plus you need to locate alternative transportation while repairs are being performed, if you can purchase one for a decent price it is worth it in my humble opinion.

Just look at the poor guy who just posted in the 2nd gen section, he's just at 27000 miles on his 2012 and just outside the 5yr for powertrain and his diff exploded to the tune of $2k+, he could have bought 1-2 platinum warranties for that price, dealer fix, rental car provided.

It is a gamble for sure but I like the sense of "security" it provides and I was able to find it at a price that didn't break the bank. It definitely saved my ass on my VW.

My dealer slipped a $2500 extended warranty on with all those numbers it was easy for me to miss it but after looking over all the paper work when I got home I freaked out and contacted my dealer and had them cancel it and it took me 3 months for the bastards to finaly refund the whole 2500. I will wait til the 3rd year and shop around and get a Toyota warranty. So you can can get a refund.

Same here. I already was about fed up with the stupid finance guy they gave me. Salesman great, service guys great, smug ass unfriendly rude finance guy, there was like 3 times where he said some snarky ass remark "it shouldn't matter you'll just trade it in in a year or two anyways." Needless to say that part of the customer survey will be marked down.

Worthwhile if you will keep the truck for 5 years or more. These trucks have a multitude of $500 or greater parts. If one out of the next 3 vehicles you buy has a major issue, it will more than be worth it. My '2000 Tundra had several issues, and the 7 year warrantee was well used. Same with a Lexus RX we had. I'm really glad my Gen3 OR has a 10 year. Hope I never use it.

Try Jerry, he gave me a great deal on a warranty for my previous Lexus and now I'm considering one for my Tacoma.
